Bought an Aero, how did I do?

Bought an Aero, how did I do?

Post by forrestking »

There was an ad in the local CL for an Elite for sale, engine seized, not much money. I called and I was too late... but the guy said he had another, an Aero 50 that he would sell and deliver, from 100 miles away, if I was interested.

The Aero does not run, but the battery is good and it turns the engine over (really fast, indicating little-to-no compression).

The plastic is faded and cracked up just a little but both glove boxes are there.

The bottom rear is completely covered in oil. The PO was riding the scooter when it started "dripping oil" and he "limped it home".

What is the advantage of the Aero over the spree? Is the Aero Variated?

It came with a title but... can any of you confirm the year?

Pics for the looking:

nice buy. it's definitely an '85 (no kickstarter), and physically, it's in better shape than mine is :D

sounds like the oil pump came loose and fell off. definitely check that out, it's right next to the starter.

and of course, clean the carb just to be sure.

I'm pretty sure it's variated. You didn't say how much you paid.

Ok Ok, paid 100 bucks. total, out the door, with the key and the signed-but-not-dated title.

2 of the locks (seat lock and front glovebox ) are trashed. Side glovebox and ignition are OK.

I'm taking it apart right now. The reason it has no compression is because it has no spark plug!!

I'll also look for the oil pump.

oil pump is popped out of the case...What the * holds that thing in there? Surely, not the little metal tab from the engine shroud???
Other than that everything else looks there.

maybe running sooner than I thought.

You got a great deal! I love my 85 and I'm sure you'll love this one when you get it going.

You can double check the year by looking for the printed plate on the frame tube just behind the front wheel. Turn the wheel to one side, put your head close to the ground and look up.

I see people finding Aeros left and right in other states lately. I wish I could find one here, i'd have to buy it no matter what the condition.

When you get it going, you'll be pretty impressed with how it rides and handles. It's pretty unique in that way. I noticed your cover between the rear blinkers is present also, make sure it's secure, cause that's the single hardest to find body part and most make their own.

But all in all, that's a steal of a deal. i wish I could get another one for $100, my girlfriend would love it.

good find man. looks like mine when i picked mine up for over twice that! but yours looks to be in better condition.

atleast you have the front blinkers, glove box and the rear center piece. mine was missing all of those, and those seem to be some of the hardest parts to find.
