rattle can paint help(colours)

Post by fightingplankton »

so, i did a bit of research online, trying to find pearl white(the kind that sparkles w/ tiny metal flakes) in a rattle can.
i found the "metal flake" company but you have to have an air compressor and spray gun and all that jazz.
i went to home depot and they have blue metallic rustoleum...but not white.
i also found a company that does have pearl white, but it comes in those little tiny cans for painting model cars and would cost me about $40 just to do the 2 back panels...
any ideas on a brand of rattle can "metallic" paints?

Greetings:

Dunno about Sprees, rattle cans, or paint in general. However I do know 'bout Pearl White.

The trick is to apply the white paint over black primer. In the right light, this gives a "Depth" to the white color you don't otherwise get. Metallic white paint is not the same as Metalflake white paint, if that's the look you're after. The latter might not come in a rattle can. The key to it all is like 10 coats of clear over all to give that "Wet Look".

if you must have pearl white, some automotive paint distributers can mix it in a pressurized can that can be re-used or try dupli-color 3 stage mirage 'rattle can" paint which changes color under light, 35 yrs ago we called it flip/flop

hmmm. the duplicolour mirage isnt exactly what i was looking for, but they have a product called "effex" that is. its a glittery clear coat you spray over your base...i may go down to my local shop and check that out. i know they have duplicolour there, but i'm not sure if they've got this stuff.
thanx for the tip maddog.

If you have a sherwin williams auto paint store in your area, they have paint with the metal flakes like you are describing. I think they have both rattle cans and in regular paint.

call maaco and see if they can mix that color and put it in the spray can. I can't remember if its that company or another one that does that.

dupli color sucks. the (same) color varies wildly from can to can, and it is not a catalyzed paint, so the first time you splash a little gas on it you are going to see your paint going away.
