Found out what is slower than a Spree...

...a Spree with regular in the tank.

I did this completely on accident and will NEVER make that mistake again!

wiguy is right...is your parking brake on? it really shouldnt make a difference. ask bear. something about octane, or oil mix...something. he knows better than i do...

Greetings:

Did you mean regular fuel in the Oil tank? You're not the first to make this mistake, but it's usually Ethanol-assisted when it happens.

Octane is NOT a measure of power but of the fuelsÔÇÖ resistance to ignition from heat. A higher-octane fuel, under identical combustion chamber conditions, will burn slower.

Uhhhhh.... 5000 miles on 87 octane leads me to belive you have some other issue.

If i'm not mistaken, the only thing that premium will do for a stock spree is hurt your fuel milage and waste money.

higher octane fuel produces less usable power. the only time to up the octane of your fuel is if you are running a stoichiometric mix and experiencing detonation.

WOW. Thats the last time I make an ignorant post on this forum.
I've done some research and have a better understanding of the octane rating now. So yeah... if I understand what I've been told and what I've read, then octane will not effect my power.
Changing the oil in my truck could be considered the apex of my mechanical knowlege so forgive my stupidity (I'm working on that) but it did seem to me that I wasn't getting the same power that I did with 92. Obviously that shouldn't be the case though, and I don't recall hearing any knocking or anything else... so just my mind playing tricks on me.

A learning process, take teaching by someone. Lots of smart people on here and they will set you straight. The old learning curve is a killer. :eyeroll: You have a good attitude about it though, a real plus.

It is possible that your spree was running better on the 92 than with the regular because of the gas itself, not the octane. You may have gotten some older regular that is degraded or there may have been moisture in the line that washed into your tank or ...

Ignorant posts are ok. If you do not know something then sometimes they are the best way to learn. We have seen some really really stupid questions on here, but heck if you really do not know the answer to something then post it up. Newbies are ok with us.

Speaking of dumb questions, Bear I see you are here. Remember some of the dumb questions your old buddy Timcat used to post?

Greetings:

Getting theoretical here, but a Spree with a bunch of carbon buildup in the combustion chamber would run a lot better on Premium than on regular. This would be due to the "artificially" high compression ratio, so maybe this isn't so ignorant after all?

That is a very good point, I would also take that into consideration as to if it really did run better on a higher octane.

Dude, have you ever had the jug off of it to check for carbon build up in the exhaust port? Another consideration is that your pipe has a lot of carbon build up in it?

Maybe it is time to have yourself a little bonfire.

Are you mechanically inclined at all? Even if your not we can still walk you through this.

Curious here, what kind of top speed are you getting out of your Spree?
