Riding LONG trip tomorrow 86 spree
I have to take trip tomorrow about 85 miles north of here.. I have the trip planned with a map of backroads.. I just want to know what i should do to or for the spree so it wont die..
or i wont damage it by going so far in one day.. what should i check and what should i look for to make sue that i will make it there and back?

Don't let it run out of gas. That along can cause all kinds of issues.

Re: Riding LONG trip tomorrow 86 spree
bears just kidding. haha, but i would get a CHT guage and hook it up to watch out for temps.
bring an extra quart of oil just in case.
uhmm. maybe an extra spark plug.
and definitely some tools, 8mm and 10mm wrenches and sockets, as well as a wrench big enough to tighten down a spark plug

Greetings:
Dunno how hot a Spree belt can get with such a long run, but a spare belt and the tools to change it might be a good idea. Otherwise, just a cellphone.

Avoid pot holes... I called spreetard one day and asked him what he was doing. His reply was going 10 to 15mph on my spree on the way out skirts of town. He hit a huge hole and ol' red just wouldnt go. I went and picked him up and we put the spree in the backseat of my civic.

Never ridden that kind of distance on a Spree but, I ride my Elite and Aero that distance all the time. Hope you have a roadside assistance plan like I did! http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewto ... =1&t=15943

Before the Demise of my crank at over 10,000 miles (and about 10,000rpm), I would regularly run near or at WOT through an entire tank of gas on 'ol red,the speedo buried and the gps reading slightly north of 40mph. The riding season is not as long as i would like here, but I average over 1500 miles a year.

Re: Riding LONG trip tomorrow 86 spree
Yes sir, I would go with KingJeff's advice; -just ride and have fun. Don't kill the fun-factor by worrying too much about breaking down. It's a Honda.
The MAIN thing is to do your PRE long-ride "checks" before you head out.
Just as everyone noted:
Install a new spark plug (#8), make sure your Spree's engine has good compression, give your belt a look for obvious cracks and wear, bring an extra bottle of oil, maybe add a couple capfuls of oil to your tank each time you fill up, check your brakes to see if they need adjustment, and one of the most important but overlooked check: Tire pressure. Make sure your tires are air'ed properly!
Have a good time and ride safe. Jamz' is definitely correct; keep on the gas and 'blip' the throttle when you are going down a hill or coming to a stop after a long WOT pull; 2 strokes don't like to coast with a closed throttle!
There's alot of stupid drivers out there that could care less about a small scooter on the road.
I love really long scooter rides-
later, jon

Re: Riding LONG trip tomorrow 86 spree
I do runs like that all the time, I have a #8 plug everything set up right on my intake so not running lean. Last Sunday I did 100 miles round trip, with out skipping a beat. I have a couple extra plugs in a pouch on my rack with the tools needed. I never have plug issues but i have the plugs just in case, two #6 and a #8. One #6 is new and one is slightly used so I know for sure it works. Im so OCD about that stuff...
People always ask me if it bothers me to put so many miles n my scooter, and I tell them I got it to drive to put miles on it not let it sit and stare at it.
