Differences between 1988 and 1998 Elite?

Hey guys I sold my 88 Elite because I made alot of money on it, but a guy has a 1998 Honda Elite for sale. What are the differences and what is a fair price? He wants 375 but he said the plastics are kinda beat up. It runs fine though he said. It has like 2200 miles on it. What are the differences though?

The '98 has the af16 engine, sometimes called the "dio". There are a lot of options for upgrading the '98. The frame is the same except for the engine mount. Plastics are the same except for the paint and graphics. Larger front brake on the '98. Basically, the '98 is a better bike.

Low miles, af16 that runs fine, kinda beat up plastics, worth the $375. Doesn't hurt to try for a little lower price if you want to. If you need a title in your state and this bike does not have one, I would not pay the $375 though. I can only speak for Iowa, but a title can easily cost $200 to get.

I see there are different models. I think by the crappy pictures that this is a S model. From what research I've done, this scooter does 25 but can be slightly modified to go 35? Is this right? And I have to get another throttle cable to make sure it gets the proper amount of oil? Can anyone elaborate on this?

the s model can be modded to go well past 35, mine does 45-50, if you buy it, remove exhaust and grind out the washer in the pipe, up jet carb to like 85 from 68, remove the airbox and drill out the 2 air inlet holes, swap secondary gears to 9:1. the oil pump if you dont want to buy a split throttle cable you can just zip tie it wide open, you will see where the cable would be, just run the zip tie thru there and strap it open.

If you zip tied the oil injection pump wide open wouldnt you be dumping in full oil at all times?

It's such a small amount but way better than not tip-tied open. And it trickles not "dumps" so there is no problem.

This is the way to go. The S pump, even when tied to "full open", will not deliver as much oil as the SR pump.

So here I am, back again. I decided to pass on the 98 elite. It sounded like he was hiding some things about it.
I am now looking to go look at a 99 Elite S.
Same scanerio here? Drill exhaust and intake, rejet, do the oil pump the proper way.
If I go with this one, I'll do some research on making it go like *. I won't beat a dead horse with asking about what performance parts are best for me, as I'm not new to forums so I'll use the search button unless someone wants to chime in so nicely right now.
Also what things should I be looking for that wear out/break? It only has a little less than 600 miles but alot of things can go wrong or break in that time. Also what would be a fair price for this scooter?

Low miles are great. The price depends on local market and condition. I don't know either for this situation, but a mint low miles scoot like this I have seen sell for $1200, I am talking showroom mint though.

11 years old with only 600 miles, the tires may be dry rotted. Change the tranny oil and fuel when you get it. Check the oil, it may need replaced or it may be fine. 600 miles is the Honda spec for break in so look in the manual and check everything it says.
