Gotta love that! Probably surprised some of those other riders with the little screamer. Back when I owned a nice new '93 Harley Sportster 883 Deluxe, I always thought that on a twisty back road I could still go faster on my '82 Honda MB5. When you think of how light the NS50F is, those other bikes you were riding with had about a full passenger of extra weight on them and some more than that. Will have to get out and ride soon, as it now sounds like we have 3 local NS50F riders in Music City...what a noise haha!

Hi guys, new here. Currently looking for a working CDI box for the 1990 Honda NS50 F. Any leads? Thanks.

Hmmm...I did search on Ebay and found this aftermarket one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-CDI-MODULE- ... 138wt_1141

Then I found the same aftermarket unit from a vendor for a much better price, but who knows if it's really in stock: http://www.motorcityreman.com/hooe30ci.html

A search at "Service Honda" verified that the factory CDIs at one time sold for $106.44 but are now discontinued. Perhaps the same CDI (or one that can be easily adapted) has been used in other Hondas and is available?

That said someone here is bound to have an old one that still works?

Another place that would be worth a "want ad" would be at the Moped Army forum.

On a somewhat related note, while searching for CDIs I came across this interesting article. Seems someone from Canada set out and succesfully pulled off a "long distance" 1600 mile ride in 33 hours on an NS50F! http://bobmunden.blogspot.com/2008/07/1 ... cubic.html

Thanks Glen. Glad you turned up more on your search than I did. That cheaper CDI is the same make and model as the ebay one.

Headed to Moped Army after todays tinkering. Fingers crossed.

MotorMike, can I have that four leaf clover back? After all it was my yard! I need the luck!

This is a great string on the NS50, Thanks to the moderators on Honda Spree for allowing this. I picked mine up last June from a kid who had been using it as a Motocross bike. Said he was tired of getting left behind by his buddies who had CR.s. Gave the kid $350.00 and Dad signed over the title. Got it home and spent a day washing of mud and changing fluids, got lites and all working and been riding it since. Lots of fun and totally differant attitude then my MB5. 1,723 miles on it.

Looks to be in remarkable shape considering it was being thrashed in the dirt/woods... :thumbwink:
Great score on the money,,,WOW...welcome to the Shifty Fifty's here.
The Mods are swell guys and give us this privelege of having the NS50F based thread...some say the most owners to be found in one spot.
I have been extremely fortunate getting hold of NS50F three times thus far. Sold one to a buddy that had been a track bike, parted one and stashed the parts, and ride the one I call "Nessie".
Outstanding performance for 50cc, I don't have to tell you.
Currently experiencing a "dim-light" condition on Nessie...
Greetings and welcome Stanyon

Motormike; check the grounding of the headlite, conections have to be clean and the dimming is a good indicator of poor ground if all other systems are in order.

Yep...good call Stanyon.
Mr harrrdy is coming by tomorrow to swap out CDI's chasing his problems.
I need to replace headlight bucket eventually in order to get it squared away...this may as well be the day to do it all and address all grounds along the way.
I know it is going to be a b-i-t-c-h to restuff everything.

And thanks to MotoMike we nailed down that it was in fact my CDI. Ordered new ones (Nashville guys, I'll have a spare on me). http://www.motorcityreman.com/ has 15 aftermarket cdi's in stock if anyone is in the market. I'll report back on reliability.

DI*K-SEE will ride again! Lame, I can't type that out. What if my name was Richard?

Very cool you figured out the lack of spark issue, and luckily the part you need is actually still available. It will be quite fun to get the Nashville trio of NS50s out together soon, what a noise...
Silly as it sounds I thought of a club name "Nashville Shifty 50s" ala "NS50" for short, haha. :peace:
