I've been having a problem with the parking lock. It didn't want to unlock the wheel. The frame lock works perfectly, and I didn't change any adjustments. I took off the right side cover and everything looks OK, the spring is springy, etc. Put it together, still stuck. Took the cover off again, this time I disconnected the little connector shaft from the actuating lever on the left side of the pivot case, too. The little nylon bushing there was shot. Ordered a new one. Put the right side cover on, and now, if I reach under the engine on the left and rotate the shaft it locks and unlocks fine. So, was it just the bushing? The new one isn't here yet so the linkage is disconnected.
It's a lot of taking apart to get to this mechanism, so any ideas about what else to check out while I'm in?

That bushing could be all it takes.
Beyond that:
1) There is a cable adjuster under the covers below the pivot lock lever
2) If a previous owner removed the actuating arm (back at the pivot lock) , it is possible the arm was replaced off by a spline or two.
Well, I replaced the bushing and it works fine. I guess that was it. The arm really only goes on one way because the splines don't go completely around the shaft and there's a punch mark on the arm where there are no splines so you can line it up. You need a good flashlight and a mirror on a stick to see it right.

But the shipping would be crazy they go for around $1,500
add another 1 K. for shipping another $200. customs broker
I still think it would be worth it .
You gyro gurus know if the 84' front brake cable and speedometer cable work on a 86'? I know different body styles, but thought i'd ask. Mousewheels told me the SA50 front brake cable works, but is 2" long.

Motormike, you're really hammering it if you've managed to lowside it. I've watched the videos of the people racing them in Japan. I certainly haven't pushed it near that hard.
Here's a "concept drawing" I did when we were brainstorming ideas for the raffle bike. The pickup bed and longboard rack were thrown away pretty early once we realized they'd be pretty counter to actual usefulness. I thought we could have managed the under the motor VW style exhaust but we opted to keep it stock and just make it clean.
That Gyro Stream looks like an electric handicap scooter. It would be a grin to motor down the street at 30, waving to the crowds! But, I'll stick with my '85. I just wish it would go up the big hills here in the Bay Area.
Anyway, I got some tires finally and now I have fatties on my Gyro. Some grinding needed to be done on the seam weld on the muffler. Will likely need more, it's still pretty tight.
And I haven't really ridden it much like this so I can't give a handling report yet...
