Gas-powered Power Wheels. Yeah.

Post by Spreetard »

So...

I've wanted a Power Wheels from the time I was old enough to turn the pages of the sears Christmas catalog. Then a few years ago, I stumbled across the guys on youtube that built some mini-quad based power wheels. I added it to the list of things I wanted to build someday, alongside a motorized cooler and a fast lawn mower.

About three weeks ago I showed redspree a video of the mini-jeeps. He immediately tracked down a tacky pink Barbie Jeep and went on the search for a mini-quad. Three days ago, I got a text from him saying he was going to pick up a mini-quad. Then a few hours later, he texted me again saying he got two... :ndance: Of course I took the other off his hands! (before Trafficjamz could get his grubby paws on it!)

The quads are clones of Honda ct50 engines, his the automatic, mine the three speed. I have a few bodies to choose from, and I have a feeling Trafficjamz will be rocking a gas-powered VW Beetle powerwheels in short order. Our hobbies tend to overlap.

Anyway, tomorrow is my day off and i intend to work on both diospree and the mini-jeep. Pics to come!!!!

Can't wait. This may be the solution to all the damaged chinese bikes that have no parts support.

I have been tinkering with the power wheels for a while now and yesterday I mananged to get ahold of one of the FJ cruisers. I wanted one with a metal body so that i could do a little gas swap too.

I plan on taking my elite-e motor and putting that inside the FJ with a lifted underbody. Gonna steal the shocks off of my elite frame to do the front suspension and the rear shock to do a solid box rear in the back. Once the gearing is sorted, it will be a little 25mph rock crawler.

During tear down we noticed mine is a 86cc already :geekdance: But hopefully we can put the motor together today and ride it!

I'd trade an Elite for one of them. I think i might go the 110cc route when and if i build one.

Idk if id trade an elite for one but it is really cool and so far a blast. Me and spreetard went to traffic jams early yesterday and around noon I had the motor fully assembled and back on the quad. Then we went to play out in the snow we were having fun drifting and riding around in general and spreetard got creative with some dough nuts so i snapped a picture.

Id guess 15-20mph the manual says like 25 or something, but i doubt that with its current gearing. It will do a wheelie from a stand still

That huge smartphone you carry around, and yet no video?

I'm sure we looked ridiculous, two grown men playing on an unridably small quad. It doesn't help that the seat and the foot pegs were taken off (with the pegs went the brake petal). And the sticking gas. Our quads are smaller than the ones in the youtube vid. Those were 110cc quads.
I think a lifan 125 would fit right in, but I find myself wondering how much is too much for such a small...er, thing.

I found a video of an atc70 with the swap and don't know if that engine should go in something so small...

OMG. I'd completely forgotten about ATCs. I don't know anyone that had one of these things that *didn't* get into an accident with it. I ran one into a ditch going 25 MPH when I was a kid; if you lost one wheel over a hole or something you were done. Hard to believe they outlawed them

Project looks interesting. The wheelbase on those two looks like they were born for this swap.
