Help Choosing A Scooter (49/50cc)
Hello, I'm new to the scooter scene and I need some input on what scooter to pick as my first/second one. I recently bought a Honda Elite E 49cc, but after a day or so, I found it to be pretty slow and would like a faster scooter. It reaches 35mph and I'm looking for a 49/50cc scooter that can get to 60mph easy. I'm probably going to have to sell it because I've read around on this forum and was informed that you can't do much to an Elite E to make it go faster. So, I've read around and saw that the Yamaha Jog is capable of this or the Yamaha Zuma is with aftermarket parts. Can anyone also confirm this and recommend me some other scooters? It doesn't necessarily have to reach 60mph, just over 35mph.
Re: Help Choosing A Scooter (49/50cc)
How about a 94-01 honda elite? My last build hit 69.8 mph.

Re: Help Choosing A Scooter (49/50cc)
Hi, thanks for the quick response. What kind of speeds can a 94-01 Elite reach with aftermarket parts? And how much would it cost to get it to that speed?
Re: Help Choosing A Scooter (49/50cc)
Just to be clear, you're looking for 60mph with a 50cc motor?
Any aftermarket mod that pushes the top speed that high will involve increased displacement.

Yes, but it doesn't have to be that high. I'm satisfied with at least 45mph.
Re: Help Choosing A Scooter (49/50cc)
94-01 honda elite with an aftermarket variator for $50-$75 and you got 45+ mph.gookies wrote:It doesn't necessarily have to reach 60mph, just over 35mph.
$500+ in aftermarket engine parts and you got 70+ mph. Maybe less, i'm just throwing a number out there. And that would mean more cc's like devenex mentioned.

Re: Help Choosing A Scooter (49/50cc)
I've found 94-01 elites are way easier to find than the Jogs and that's why i don't have a Jog yet. In michigan anyways.

Re: Help Choosing A Scooter (49/50cc)
Like I said, I'm new to scooters and I've been hearing about individuals putting big bore kits (70cc) on their 49/50cc scooters? I got interested in one, since I needed one to commute on my college's campus, but I would like to take it on some joy-rides once in awhile on a 45mph limit street. I just don't want to register my scooter as a motorcycle if it's higher than 50cc. So by putting a big bore kit on a scooter, would it be possible to reach it? And evilone, you also live in Michigan! I live in East Lansing for now, since I go to MSU. Maybe you can sell me a decent scooter?
Re: Help Choosing A Scooter (49/50cc)
I only have an extra frame. Get a 94-01 honda elite, put in an aftermarket variator or a used ruckus variator and hit 45+ the easy way.

Re: Help Choosing A Scooter (49/50cc)
Would you know any mid to late 2000 scooters that can reach 45+?

Re: Help Choosing A Scooter (49/50cc)
I'd stick with the Honda quality and get a 94-01 elite for under $1000 easy, average seems to be around $700. Just don't go chinese. My 94 elite turned 10,000 miles last summer.gookies wrote:Would you know any mid to late 2000 scooters that can reach 45+?

A yamaha can be made to go fast but it will cost more to go really fast
There are some, stick with the 2stroke ones. kymco zx50 and ETON Beamer are okgookies wrote:Would you know any mid to late 2000 scooters that can reach 45+?

Re: Help Choosing A Scooter (49/50cc)
You do realize most states have other restrictions on scooters than just cc limit?
Ex:
Maximum Speed
Maximum HP
Transmission type
Passenger limits, etc.

Re: Help Choosing A Scooter (49/50cc)
Yes, I do, but I doubt a police officer will have a speed-gun on a scooter. I just want it registered as a 50cc, so I don't have to get a motorcycle license or anything and scooters that are above 50cc usually have a dead giveaway (rear shocks) that are only on them and not 50cc I heard. Also, is a 2009 Kymco Agility 50 scooter any good for reaching 45mph+?
