Help with de-restricting a honda elites 95

Post by allisswell »

Help... I am try to take the washer off of the variator. I have taken off all of the bolts and can get the right section of the case off. I can NOT get the left section of the case off(where the kick start comes out of). Any help would be great. Thanks :newb:

Hello: The cover has a paper gasket between it and the case, also two alignment dowel pins. Over time things stick together very well and need a firm gentle hand to separate them. There are a few tabs on the cover that stick up higher than the case. The one above where the starter mounts can be accessed from the other side of the scooter. Using a wooden dowel and rubber mallet tap gently against the tab, the sound will change as the cover separates from the gasket, don't smack it to hard. Once loose there you should be able to coax it off the rest of the way. Goodluck

Hello; again, some people use and impact wrench for removal but shouldn't be used for installing due to possibility of hurting the crank. A strap wrench to hold it can be used as well, for removal and installation.

Any info on how to get the bolt off of the variator wit OUT a impact wrench? I have a strap wrench but it keeps sliding off.

i used a chain wrench to remove the vari bolt. the strap wrench will slip alot and eventually rip the rubber. if you have access to a chain wrench then use that, it grips the starter gear better

Stabilizing the flywheel is a much better idea. If you decide to install bolts into the flywheel housing as a form of improvised stabilization, be careful not to threat them in too far or you will make contact with your stator, damage the windings, and want to throw up.

Hello: The proper although not faster way for removal is to remove the fan cover off the engine, then remove the fan from the flywheel. Using a flywheel holder to hold the flywheel then remove the nut from the variator. A adjustable pin wrench or make your own out of something. search the forums for "flywheel holder" should come up with ways of making your own. Don't hold the nut on the flywheel and try to remove the variator nut bad things could happen. good luck

Hello: Have never used an elect. impact wrench. I would suggest to get the strongest one possible. Never hurts to have extra power just in case. you might want to use it on some big stuff some day.

Greetings:

Just get one of These. File a couple notches in the horizontal jaws for a tighter fit to the starter teeth on the rim of the outer front pulley. The pins hold the clutch and the alternator too.

Arguably, removing a pulley with the Impact won't do any harm, but ham-fisted application in a Righty-Tighty direction could conceivably knock you crank out of true.
