Anyone know Oregon laws for Honda Sprees?

Post by Idi0tech »

Trying to figure out whether I need to get a in state license to drive my scooter or if I can just use my Arizona drivers license. It doesn't expire till 2051 so I was hoping with a license like that which doesn't need to be renewed for a long time I wouldn't have to pay the outrageous oregon fees for getting a new license.

I know in oregon if it's under 50cc you don't need MC license or to have insured. I have current plates that are good till 2013. The title needs to be switched over to my name still. My main issue is just someone pulling me over and giving me s*** for having a out of state license or not.

I don't know your state's law.

But when I moved from Michigan to Georgia, the rule was you had six months to change it over to that state.

So as long as you say "I just mover here a couple weeks ago" , you should be ok for a while.

I lived in GA for close to two years........I never did get a GA driver's licence.

Washington is 90 days and they are major * about it and the fine is $100 the first time, $200 the second and $300 the third, but the judge will want to see a Washington DL when they fine you the 1st time so the 2nd and 3rd rarely happen.

You think I can get away with not having to pay the title fee for a bit?

In Oregon a scooter has the exact same laws as any other vehicle. Except if its over 50 cc's you must have a motorcycle endorsement. A lot of people will tell you false information and tell you if its undetermined 50 cc then you don't need a dl or insurance or a licence plate. I've been pulled over with expired tags and I've lied and said I thought if it wad under 50 cc you don't need tags. The cops have no idea about the laws on them. They don't seem to care. The cops are out to catch criminals. Not f with people driving a scooter around. They don't give a crap about scooters unless your doing something stupid.

Pimpin is right on all accounts. Heres the Oregon DMV page for "mopeds".

As for the title transfer, you can put it off but it might cost you more money. After 60 days from the sale the fee goes up for cars, but I haven't tested it with scooters.

Yeh I figured that. I've actually looked at this page. The language was a little murky, and I felt like maybe some local scooter users would have a better understanding of what actual * you might need to put up with on the road. Appreciate the info.

I think they tack on an additional 50 bucks or something after 30 days without title transfer. I dunno I just don't understand the DMV's need to charge me for owning something. Arizona's laws were a lot more lax.

after living in Phoenix for 10 years I agree with you tec.. the reason being there are alot more people so they can charge less and be more lax. I would transfer the title and deal with it..doubt they will make you get your DL switched over to do that

The state has higher fees to compensate for the lack of a sales tax supposedly.
