Greetings:

Good Heavens, man!! You're intoxicated by the aromatic hydrocarbons. Never suck on the vacuum line without an EPA-Approved Vacuum Pump.

The only cure: Vodka.

SO i have about 90% of the gas out but thats all i can get out. Is it OK to proceed with removing the gas tank to clean out the rest?

OK the gas tank is off, wow, it was very simple but i feel like I accomplished something so masculine I may grow a third *, we'll see.
Any tips for the proper way to clean this out? Do I need any special snake oil or anything?

Depends on how dirty it is. For filthy tanks, you can buy a gallon of phosphoric acid from Home Depot for a few bucks. It's in the paint section. This will eat rust over night. Drain and flush with water and a bit of baking soda to neutralize it.

If it's not that dirty I just rinse with water.

Fill it with gas right away or it will rust.

Oh, and the vacuum side is the one that doesn't taste bad.

It's the one that's NOT running to the carb, but connected to the silver colored air intake.

if you start will navel jelly and a handfull of nuts, then shake, it will knock loose rust and some of that lovely varnish you got in there. then remove all naval jelly and nuts. rinse with water, then shake around some acetone in there to remove all the stuff left behind, as well as the remaining moisture, a couple times and you should be good.

couple of things.
1 they make an adapter to convert your existing tube stems to 90 degree stems or you can just go buy new tubes. i personally use a small bike pump w/ a built in gauge, the kind you step on to pump, that i have in my rear glovebox. it fits on...just barely.

secondly, take out the in tank fuel filter and go get a cone-o-stone in line fuel filter, cut the fuel line in half, and install, making sure the flow is in the right direction(should be an arrow on the filter itself)

Thanks form the tips Fight, i don't really understand what that stuff is or does but if it will make it run better I'm all for it. Looking in the gas tank I'm really happy looks mint. No rust. The gas that came out looked like urine, not too much sediment in it at all and the gas was thin. I guess I will wash it out good with water next and then fill it with gas, to prevent it from rusting. Other then sitting for two years it has been properly maintained by the one owner. It will be nice to ride it but I am enjoying how easy it is to work on yourself. I'm gonna appreciate that ride even more now that I'm learning how the thing runs.

thats exactly why i had my girlfriend rebuild hers from the ground up.

the in-line fuel filter replaces the in tank filter and since its in line you can see if/when it gets clogged.

the bike pump i linked to is just handy to have around in case you do what i did and hit some rail road tracks really really hard and get a blow out. that way at least you can pull over to air up when it gets low until you can get home.

the 90 degree adapter screws on to your existing valve stem so you can use normal sized air chucks that otherwise wouldnt fit thru the tiny spokes. my buddy ran into the same problem at the local 7-11.
they make different versions of it, some you can leave on all the time, others are meant to take off once you're done filling up.
