waving to other riders?
Hey y'all,
When I started out riding on the formidable public roads of my city (Mobile, AL) on my '84 Spree, I wasn't aware that motorcyclists showed courtesy or acknowledgement towards other riders. After receiving the casual wave from several riders (and wondering * was wrong with my scooter) though, I learnt that it was good manners to wave to other riders and so I've been doing it (waving frantically) ever since. From my 3 months experience riding, I have realized that not all riders wave back or even give the cursory nod, most HD cruisers ignore me to the point of seeming contemptuous while sports bikers are mostly jovial and well, sporty.
I was wondering what you, my fellow scooterists, think about the whole "waving" phenomenon and what, if any, response do you get if and when you wave.
Thanks.

Re: waving to other riders?
I have always waved to other riders. But the thing here in Michigan is most bikers don't like mopeds or scooters becouse we don't have to have all the bs like helmets and plates. So it is not unusual to get the finger.

Re: waving to other riders?
Dude, I ride with "full" gear on!...well, as "full" as I can comfortably be on my scooter that is....cortech gx-air textile/armored jacket, icon ti-max gloves, icon knee/shin guards, hjc cl-sp helmet.....I try to be as "sporty" as I can possibly be, leaning hard on turns and stuff lol. Maybe I'm a sell out, but I'm crazy about sport bikes and I'm literally salivating to get my hands on a post 2008 Ninja 250r.....now that you mention it though, maybe that's why I get waves from sport bike riders, maybe they see how hard I try to be like 'em and take pity on me.

Re: waving to other riders?
When I'm on my Ducati I usually wave to everybody and mojority of them are friendly. Waving to scooter/mopeds makes those riders feel appreciated and makes them feel good.

In my neck of the woods Bikes never wave at Scoots ....Scoots never wave at Scoots
When I'm on any of my bikes I will nod to the "real" Scoots...so many dam e-bikes out there
When I'm on the Scoot I never wave
As for ATGATT ....yes on Bike not so much on the scoot but honestly it is a good idea

In Oregon, "bikers" usually wave... but not always... to scooter riders.
I wave to everyone. If I dont get a return wave I just figure they are * and not worth caring about.

I usually wave like this but with closed fingers on the road.KingJeff801 wrote:

I've been riding a motorcycle for 10+ years now and always wave to other motorcyclists. I've found that scooter riders rarely wave back. I think they don't know about the waving thing.

Some people on Scooters are just to scared to take a hand off the bars to wave.

I give everyone the peace symbol. If they acknowledge it i go on my day. If not i drop a finger and give them the number one ahole signal. Or as some people call it the middle finger.
