last night the gf was on her way home from work on the spree and it broke down. i went to pick her up, and checked it out. the spree would start up, but when i would throttle up to get going it would roll about 10 feet and die.....batter was fully charge, full tank of gas and oil.....the gf said that she heard a knocking noise right before it died....

any suggestions on what it might be?

and anyone in the edmonds area of washington that could help me work on the bike? i can work on any V8 muscle car, but completely new to sprees, would be willing to help me out? i will pay

Mousewheels is just East of you at the north end of the lake and zuphilius is in Mount Lake Terrace.

Before that remove the plastics and look for anything that is loose and then do a compression test.

...KNOCKING noise before stalling could be backfire due to lean mixture....most likely
fuel supply has been compromised....main jet is being molested by foreign material passing through....my best guess... :hi:

Check compression is easy. First download and read service manual.

http://www.hondaspree.net/other/Spree_NQ50_84-87_1.pdf

Then pull spark plug, screw in tester. Open throttle all the way and crank the motor until the gauge does not go any higher. Minimum in the manual is 114 PSI.

so im assuming its the carb. everything starts perfectly find and idles amazing and it will run all the way up until like 3mph, but as soon as i throttle past it, the engine dies.....guessing the carb is not allowing the throttle body to open up all the way and then it just floods out. any ideas on how much a new carb is?

The only way that could happen is if the throttle cable was maladjusted and the needle was installed improperly and would rise on it's own. I bought a quad that had this issue, it was too cheap so I knew the guy was lying. Bought the 15 cent washer and it was fixed. But the washer got lost because the PO lost it, it did not fall out on its own.

It sound more like the main jet is plug or the emulsion tube is plugged than anything else, because as long as you are on the idle circuit it runs, but when you transfer to the main fuel circuit, it dies.

That carburetor is showing signs of needing a good cleaning. Please download the service manual Clean per instruction. If you have issues we can help I am in Tacoma area and NEVER have found an un salvageale carb. GOOD LUCK! :werd:

Unless you are gonna do the bbk don't bother with the big carb.
