Throttle Adjustment

Post by ute »

86 spree

So I changed the cable the other day , throttle action is not that good . Is there a specific setting for the nut that goes on the cable at the handle bar end ( going into the twist throttle).

also is there a better way to screw the cable into the housing than spinning the whole cable around then re-thread it through the scooter , then if you get the adjustment wrong take it all back out and do it again ?

Hope I made sense, with the way I described it

Greetings:

Your avatar scares me, a little.

You can spin the cable, or remove the clamp from the handlebars, disconnect the brake cable and switch and just spin that. Either way, it's a bit of a PITA.

Are you absolutely sure that the cable's the problem. Sometimes the issue lives at the other end - the slide assembly is frightfully easy to get wrong the first couple hundred times you dismantle. Be certain the slide engages the little button in its bore, and the spring is seated properly. Most Honda cables lack an "in-line" adjustment barrel, so you have to get it pretty close at the grip end.

You adjust it for an amount of twist throttle movement before the slide moves. The instructions are in the manual under "Maintenance" (Chapter 3 normally) and has a spec of usually 2-6 mm or 1/8 to 1/4" movement before the slide moves. I always do this adjustment before I remount the switch/throttle back on the bar.
