Top Speed for an '87 SE50 Elite?

Post by Skipper20 »

After breaking in my new 3.0 x 10 Pirelli SL26 tires, I went WOT today on an infrequently traveled side road and averaged a GPS recorded 37.7 mph. By "average" I mean 36.0 one way and 39.4 back the other way as the road is not perfectly level. For a bone stock SE50 with just under 1500 original miles and my weight at 190 lbs. with all my riding gear on, how does this 37.7 mph compare with other stock SE50s? BTW, the new tires are a definite improvement over the old not so much in improved speed ( there wasn't any) but they felt like they were sticking to the pavement much better. With the old tires, I could feel them just starting to break loose at speeds over 30 mph.

35 to 42mlh seems to be the consensus that I've seen. Mine would go a whopping 23 and change mph gps'd in stock form but that is an Iowa edition.

Same as mine. Mine is bone stock with 10g rollers and aftermarket carb and I hit 35-37 normally. Some day's with perfect weather I can hit 40mph tops.

you have two ways it get better speed out of your toys ..
1 higher rpm .. by what i finger your doing about 8.000 rpm ( 37.8mph ) at 9.000 your speed is 42.5
2 better gears, with need more hp at 9.8 /1 at 8.000rpm 46.7 and at 9.000 52.6

but that's using a chart for a af16 so i dont no what gears are for you af05

if your going to make better speed its not a one thing deal ..
you need to read more here and under stand that there is not as meany after market parts of the se50 motor..

Variated af05 has 8.2 minimum reduction compared to the af16 10.3 so the af05 doesn't need the step up in gears if the belt drive is fully tuned.

Hey, I'm OK with 37.7 mph tops. I was just curious to see if my Elite 50 was in the same ball park as other SE50s and it appears that it is. And, when I get my windshield installed (delivery due this Friday) it looks like I'll be topping out at around 40 mph. For my old bod (78 this last Sep.) and a light weight 49cc moped that's just fine. Thanks!

bone stock thats about the ball park speed it will do. keep in mind that the variator is still restricted. thats why the belt doesnt ride all the way to the top of the variator. get your self a after market variator and you will gain another 5-7mph. the extra 3mm of belt ride height will make that extra topspeed.
