Doing OK here. No power loss and if there were I have 3 generators. Have an extensive wood supply and quads to get off my hill if the requirement arises and a 4X4 for street travel parked at the bottom of the hill if that becomes necessary. But thanks for asking. Hope all is well at casa Baka.

Good to hear you guys south are ok. A co-worker down south reported 1/2" of ice on top of snow, downed trees and no power. Northeast, several folks could not get out of their neighborhood, and had no power. We had it good - 1/8" of ice under snow on the truck to break free, almost zero traffic and only power glitches that kept resetting the 'puters.

Odd that you guys are getting a standard KC winter while KC is getting one of the most mild winters I have ever seen in my life... I we usually have atleast one really gnarly ice storm a year, and so far this year we have like 1 inch of snow...
Keep warm and safe, guys. Good to know you got generators incase you loose power, after loosing power about once a year you would figure i would learn that lesson.

They have already declared a snow emergency here. 14 hours before the start.

Ice is no problem, that is why we have studs. The weather channel keeps showing Seattle here.

Actually it has been several years since we have had a real winter storm and this one barely qualifies. A number of years ago we had an 18" dump of snow, high winds and a second 18" of snow on top of the first frozen solid 18" of snow. Without power for a week, a 7 full days, mainly because not only were the local lines down but all the feeder lines and the main power lines were down. They were helicoptering crews in because the roads were impassable. The water system has several large tanks on top of the hill. When the tanks went dry on day 4 because there is no power for the well pumps. The wife spent the whole week at work because travel was impossible until day 6. This is just play fun on Mother Natures part. It happens but not every year.

snow and ice storm

Post by Carnie »

Last year, we in Joplin got 18-20 inches of snow. But that's crazy in our book. A couple years prior we had a huge ice storm. Power was out all over town for minimum of 8 days some places over two weeks. We couldn't walk outside because branches were snapping off of trees left and right. Glad you guys are doing okay though. Stay warm and safe!

the worst part of the northwest having a storm like this is that alot of places here is very hilly. thats the dangerous part. sliding down the road on ice is not fun at all.

I forgot about the fact that you guys up there are way more hilly and mountainous then we have here in MO. Even when we got the like 18 or so inches in 24 hrs mentioned before, with ice to boot, and i was still able to get to work. Granted it took me 3 hours to get home rather than 30 minutes...
Where as if you guys get some where and it gets nasty, and your just screwed...
Either way stay safe guys.
