jumped back on the spree wagon

Post by dp4auburn »

Hey all,
new spree forum member here. I had one when I was a kid and had a chance to buy another one so I jumped on it.
87 spree, red, all stock, and currently not running. But that will change next week when I have some time to work on it. Some older gentleman had it in his barn for a month and it was running previously. Dusty and has a few cracks here and there but in otherwise good shape. Not bad for $150 I thought. Glad to be here and be part of the scooter lifestyle again.

congrats on jumping on the opportunity that presented itself.
that looks great for the price that you paid.

What are your plans after you get it running?
keeping it stock and all original?
or making it a speed demon with after market parts?
or even perhaps even an engine swap?
lol. i'm excited for yah! Congrats again!

You really don't have to answer all these questions,
just giving yah some ideas, that's all. ;)

Thanks everyone for the friendly welcome.
im not sure how I want to do this one. My friends and I do a good bit of atving and camping, but my atv is not the best for cruising around the park and campgrounds. So I was thinking about doing a mild build that would work well on semi-maintained unpaved roads-more aggressive tires, slightly lifted and such.

But the other side I see it as a custom strictly cruiser/ in town runabout. Redo all the paint some crazy color (dad owns a body shop) and fix everything real nice.

Or give it a good clean, and ride it as is. There is something to be said for a good looking 25 year old original Honda.

No engine swaps any time soon as I stay busy and broke enough not to have time or money for that. Just mainly looking for reliability engine wise. Maybe a new exhaust or something along those lines.

My five year old girl has already fallen in love with it too. :) Image

Her is an update on the progress, got it running the next day. Wouldn't do more than 5mph. Thanks to the help of a fellow board member who suggested a fix, it is up and running like a champ. Got it to 28 mph so far, but that is only because I ran out of road, lol. You would think I just bought a Ferrari with the smile on my face. Lol.
Gonna do some clean up on it and will post up some new pix later in the week.

Your 87 looks like it was well taken care of.

I'm glad it was a simple fix.

32mph is about tops for a stock 87. 28mph is good

maybe replace the belt to get back those few lost mph.

Greetings:

Dio89Elite, consider fixing your Signature line. Your '89 Elite E is denoted SB, not SE50.
Its confusing, ain't it?
