Just saying hi.

Post by GearNut »

I just thought that I would introduce myself.
I recently got an 87 Aero for free.
It does not run, has no air cleaner housing or anything air filter related (I really need all that stuff for it) and other than being really weathered it looks all right.
Before going through all the trouble of getting a title for it I thought I might take a try at getting it running first.
I have 30 years experience repairing motorcycles, 20 of them professionally, so it should not be very hard for me to do.

If anyone has any suggestions on where to get a complete, used air cleaner on the cheap. I'm all ears!
I do have a few angled UNI filters that I am going to try for now, but I think that they will upset the air/ fuel ratio too much.
A re jet would do the trick, but for now I just want to hear it run.

Check, and make a thread in the Wanted/For Sale section, someone might have what you need. And welcome! :hi:

Free is good! (why don`t I ever get free scooters?)

Check ebay. They`ve always got parts.
We can learn much from wise words, and less from wise guys.

Greetings: GearNut

"87 Aero must be a 50, and looks like your engine was used only in '87: AF09E
That might give you a limited selection of airbox choice....might be in for some modification of different year box...I don't know what those differences are, probably no biggie...but agree with your thinking.
Get it running before giving the state any "money for nuthin'...and your chics for free.

Yes, it is a 50cc.
I think that the engine ID is part of the engine number prefix. Lemme go to the garage and have a look-see.

you may have a different year than '87, or who knows really
Good news is that airbox will be easier to find, one should think.

The nightmare of paperwork that came with it has 1987 all over it. I have no history of the scooter so you are right, who knows? All the numbers match up though. I did look for that before accepting this project.
If all else fails, I might make a blender out of it. I wonder how well it would grind up ice....with a variator and all.

That particular engine number, AF05E, was used in different applications...
The Honda Identification guide lists the AF09E for '87, so that is where I got my info.
You could easily have an '86 that was sold and registerd as an '87.
This guide shows the vin's so i can verify your #'s...if you wish to share... :hi:

I'm too chickenpoop to just throw the numbers out on the internet.
Is there any way I can look at this guide myself?

Oh, that site! Thank you! That site is where I found out about this forum...
I haven't really explored it much yet, although I have been lurking around here for a few days now.

The sticker on the frame says it was made in March of 1987.
