Greetings:

Deepinnaharta Kawasaki sales guy Bubba actually has a GS500 - '08 methinks - that he says was his daughter's.
Like 300 miles, but he wants "around $4K". The big Zook sure feels heavy compared to the lissome CBR and Ninjas. Nice GSX lookalike plastic though.
Decisions, decisions.

My wife had a 04 GS500F and I liked the power, my wrist got sore riding it, but I think it was just me. Hers was yellow with 6000 miles, we sold it for $2600. If you go back a few years they have the "E" which had no fairings, but looks good. Try the GSTwins forum for an idea.

Greetings:

Power is good! However the bulk of the machine pretty much destroys everything I find so attractive about the little Elite in the first place; light, quick and nimble handling to negotiate the craters and ravines of Deepinnaharta "Streets". Of all the available machines that have the fuel range, acceleration, and speed to do a 15-mile freeway commute, the little CBR (89MPH) still comes closest in terms of weight and handling. Looking over the road test results, the Ninja 250 (99MPH) is actually very nearly as fast and quick as the air-cooled GS, and considerably lighter. Still, a hefty 40 pounds more than the CBR. Am I talking myself into this? Maybe.

Yes, you're rationalizing what I think you already have decided to do. I suggest you ride a few of these bikes and make a decision.

Re: GS500 vs EX250: The GS500 will feel faster... the EX250 makes all it's torque up high. While that's fun on the track, and for awhile on roads, it gets tiresome to be constantly wringing out the engine. The GS won't require this. Good prior point on side drafts. I've not taken an EX250 on interstate but have heard they can be squirrelly with side forces. My GS500 is stable, FWIW. GS vs EX gets discussed ad nauseum over at gstwins.com. Do a search over there for more on this. You can also read up on my trails and travails with this particular machine. Basically, my thought is that unless you're around 5'6" and 130lb, the EX is too small for a daily commuter.

I don't know anything about the CBR250, but assume same as above will still hold true.

Greetings:

I've read every online road test on the CBR250R I could find. It gives up ~3 peak horspower to the baby Ninja, but makes 2 pounds-ft. more torque at 6500 than the Kawi makes at 9K. The net result is that in all tests of acceleration, it pops ahead of the Ninja for a few seconds until the revs climb and the Ninja reels it in.

Also found the 250's Canada-only CBR 125R baby brother. Looks like they're starting to get all the good small-bore stuff with fuel so high. I'm betting the 125 cracks 70 in stock form. (My friend's '74 CB125 could just make it back then...)

Greetings:

After much deliberation, nothing in the scooter world is really suitable for the 15-mile Interstate commutes I'm contemplating. Sure maybe the PCX 150 can touch 70, but only at WOT and running like that just don't feel right to me.

The 250s - CBR and EX Ninja - sure are attractive and I can afford a new one. However they already relinquish the quick, nimble-handling lightweight goodness of the scooters I've grown to love. The displacement is still a bit limited in terms of "flowing" with freeway traffic in terms of passing power in reserve.

Which leads me to a couple of 500 class used machines. Noisy-Guy's favorite GSF-500. I found an '09 clad in all its Gixxer-wannabe goodness - 'Zook White-and-Blue for about the same price as a new CBR and less than the Ninja 250 with - get this! - Seven (7.0) miles on the odometer. For even less scratch, there's a Ninja 500 sitting beside it that looks showroom-new with 1900 miles. Both started up, but the 'Zook's battery appears to need at least a charge or maybe replacement.

Money-saving proceeds to August when I hope to ride one or the other home. What says The Noise?

GTS 300 Super. If you like the nostalgic look, this one`s got the same displacement, GTV 300.

That is one SHARP looking scooter. They can be found with low mileage for a pretty reasonable price, too.
If I was still in the rat race and making a daily commute, that would be the scooter I`d be using.

Not to offer personal opinion on Reflex, but those I've questioned about them have mixed responses. The people that rode Helix and then converted to Reflex do NOT like the change. First-time buyers say they like Reflex. .... :urban:
