(ed Amzoil Saber 100:1) Anybody ever heard of this stuff?

Post by OneBulletDan »

Took the scooter down to the local power sports shop. The owner, Dave (heck of a nice guy) was showing me this two stroke oil. He says he special orders the stuff for a couple of guys that have ultralights with Rotec engines in `em. Says they mix the stuff 1:100! It`s called Amsoil Saber 100:1 pre-mix.
I lack the nads to mix it that thin, but I figure I`ll try it at 50:1 and see how it works. Anybody have any experience with the stuff, good or bad?
We can learn much from wise words, and less from wise guys.

Yeah, back when I was racing, low temp water cooled engines, no less and one of the guys picked up Amsoil as a sponsor and ran his engines at their recommend 100 to 1. Four engine at $10,000 each for $40,000 to learn that 100 to 1 does not work. Don't believe their hype.

As for pesonal experience with this Amsoil pre-mix only oil, Saber...
I bought 3 gallons of premix fuel from a friend who sold the bike he was using it in. It was the Amsoil mixed at 32:1
I ran it in my Aero 125 along WITH Amsoil in the injection tank, and their was no adverse affect I could discern. the plug had some odd little white crystal-like nodules, maybe 3 or 4 of them, but was still showing mainly tan. Anyway..there was no noticeable increase in exhaust smoke either.... :urban: I believe the Amsoil product have good cleaning properties... :imo:

Beat-up was it the Saber line or an earlier line?

Have run Saber professionally in string trimmers, chain saws, and blowers at 75:1 with no problems. Ran it in an air cooled moped at 90:1. Like mike said, no adverse effects from running it rich at 32:1 and 40:1 (dirt bikes).

You'll hear stories of guys mixing Saber at 150:1 on moped army.

Local dealer wants $4.70 for gn2. I pay $9-10 per quart of Saber here. Amsoil sells a lower grade premix for a little less.

I have run Sabre at 50/1 with no issues. I also wouldnt try it at 100/1 :surprise:
I have some friends I ride with, and built their motors, who run it with out issues.
I run Amsoil Dominator in my race bikes at 42/1... if it didnt work I would run it :2thumbs:

I have been running amsoil 100/1 on all of my 2 stroke toys for years. It makes for easy starting, even after sitting a long time. And it also burns very clean, no smelly clothes after using it. I have never had any engine problems running this either.

You mix it at 100:1, or do you thicken it up a bit?

Right and only run a stock pipe and cyl... and carb/airfilter while your at it because Honda made it and it wont hurt your motor. Almost any quality 2 stroke oil meets the Honda specs and is safe to run. But to be safe research Honda's recomended oil specs and check to see if the oil you want to run meets those specs.

Once again Sabre is a quality oil that works well in our application. 100/1 seems scary but I have heard ped guys running it at that ratio so who knows. At 50-40/1 you should have no issues.

Ive used Dominator when the dealer ran out of my Klotz R50; and I didn't have any adverse effects. But then again, I mixed it at 32:1.

I'm with Bear-dude on this one... :2thumbs:
-I personally wouldn't risk my engine on 100:1, regardless what the oil mfg claims. Most all mfg's are trying to set their product apart with claims that grab the users attention... 100:1 grabbed my attention!

And it is a well known fact amsoil makes some great oil...
But I'll stick to Klotz R50 or SuperTechniplate; I've had great results.
