What are the odds?

I probably mentioned this a year ago but I was looking for some parts one day and this chic I was with knew of a place way out in the sticks about 60 miles or so from my house so I was like yea lets go check it out. I found a 94 Elite SR with a key that looked really good to be sitting out at an atv/salvage place. I asked them how much they would sell it for and they said it wasnt for sale and that they were supposed to fix it for someone but call back in a few weeks to find out more. Well I tried calling for months with no answer so I was like to * with it. I posted an ad on CL a week or so ago that I could repair scooters, atvs, motorcycles etc and last week this guy brought me a 04 rebel to work on. We got to talking and he said he used to have a elite he bought new and that he took it to a shop for a leaky gas tank and the place never fixed it so after a year he just took them the title. I was like was this place in the sticks in baldwyn MS and he was like yea I like 5 miles from there O.o Then I told him how I tried to buy it a year ago :D hahhah Offhand I told him it was too bad he didnt still have it I would so fix his Rebel in trade for the scooter. Well he went by there and asked if they still had it and would sell it back to him and they was like you can just have it back :D Out of all the possible ways the situation could have turned out, he picked it up this morning and is on his way to my house with it as I write this mmmwwwhahhaha Mere coincidence? I think not. Will post pics up in a few hours of my new ride

It looks like your luck is better than mine. I went to look at a spree today and the guy selling it was a total hothead and tried rushing me. The 85 spree was like 90% complete and he said it had compression and spark but he was rushing me rather suspiciously. I had talked him down to 120 from 200 on the phone before I went to check it out. I probably ripped myself off but it was the salesman that I had a problem with, not the spree. Do you think 120 would have been a good deal for a spree missing a battery, ignition switch (rigged to always on), a break cable, and a few odds and ends? Think I should maybe try another go at it for like $80? :? He changed the price to $135 after I left. Go figure. :bs:

Groovy :D That sounds like a good deal on a Spree. The Elite wasnt an SR it was a 94 S no big deal I wouldnt know what to do with an SR anyway :P The other 2 motors I swapped into my Spree were S motors so no biggie. I sat the thing up on its stand when I saw it over a year ago and apparently they had let it fall back over, it had sand all over everywhere everything all scratched and faded. The entire CVT was like the Zuma I recently got all corroded and rusted but luckily I had a spare stock vari and ramp so I just reused the sliders and rollers and was able to buff the torque converter surfaces pretty good. The clutch was ok and bell with only 1000 miles on the scooter the springs were tight as......well you know  Got that all cleaned and back togther, cleaned the carb which was actually quite clean, drained oil, flushed the gas tank, cleaned the airbox hooked that back up, gas in the cylinder and a diff spark plug. They had a bpr4hs plug in there :P a couple kicks with the throttle wide open and she runs but I think the rings are worn cause they drilled a hole in the exhaust without an upjet. It makes an awful clatter when I give her over half throttle. Will work on her more tomorrow and start a build thread with pics either tonight or tomorrow :D

lol dont put that on me fishman :P it is a pain splitting and putting the cases back together without that special tool. I may just swap the motor from my swapped spree so i can ride and tear into the engine at my leisure then put it back on the Spree lol

Looks like you got a lot done in 1 day haha. It takes me 4 hours just to clean a carb because I'm a rookie. Hopefully I manage to get some of those things done to my new spree tomorrow. Unfortunately I have to work the next 2 days so I wont get as much done as I would like. I would say there is a 50-50 chance of me getting it to run. It looks as though it had a rough life before I got it. 6,400 miles, and not a single bolt to speak of holding the plastic panels together hahaha. Almost everything on it has something broken, although the throttle cable and carb looks to be in excellent condition. There is only so much I can do with my 5 tools. 8).

I wonder, are the 85 and 86 spree mufflers interchangeable? I believe the muffler on the 85 is in better condition than my 86.

yes you can swap the mufflers. Just be sure to check fuel lines, petcock on thta tank, clean the carb, and make sure the air filter is good and all that. Check to make sure hte spark plug is sparking by grounding it against some metal while someone kicks it...well with the 85 electric starts it once all that stuff is done put a little premix in the sparkplug hole, dip the plug in gas then screw her in. Should crack after turning it over a few times. You may want to drain the old oil outta its tank and bleed the lines too before you try to start it :D

Guess I will keep this here since its not really a build, if it turns into that i will just link to the new thread. Cleaned up the plastics today but nothing fine detail just clean lol Since the motor makes an awful clattering sound I figured I would save it for a rainy day and access to a case puller. I took the engine off my spare spree with the arreche carb and put that on there with a slightly longer/stiffer china shock I had laying around so i can use the Elite shock when i put the motor back on the Spree since I was using a spree shock made my rear sorta off center. Finally got everything put back together and bolts hunted down to replace the missing ones, she rides good only thing I noticed is the headset is slightly off from center but I will figure that out later when i do a paint job and heat gun the ABS :D Important thing is everything is there, it runs, and all the elctricals work WooT

Thanks donut, I sure do like to tell a long story huh?? lol I think for this one I am going to give it a nice coat of apple red paint and heat the abs to restore its color and leave it at that since I dont have any red scooters :D
