Finally started making a sidestand for my Aero NB50

Post by breaze »

Ever since I read Bakaracer's post about the sidestand he made, I've been meaning to put one together for my daughter's Aero 50. She really hates the existing centerstand. Here is the link to his post:

http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewto ... =sidestand

Got started today - picked up a length of 1/4 inch thick steel today (less than $10.00 at HD) but I went with the 1 1/2 inch instead of the 2 inch - hopefully not a mistake. Got a basic stand off of Ebay for a GY6 as suggested - $20.00.

Here's what I have so far, should be able to finish up tomorrow and report on results - if I'd known it would be this easy, I would have done it already:

I'm inspired breaze... :thumbwink:
trouble is, that dreaded "drag" that sneaks up on you at (or before) the apex
and gives you reason to pucker... :bowrofl:

Now that's just me, your girl could probably not care less. The sidestand is preferred in her case... :thumbwink:
...and very well done, so far... :hi:
I may follow your lead and copy on my Aero 50. It doesn't get out on those gnarled and undulating pavements.

Well, when it came time to bend the bar, I figured out why Bakaracer used 1/8 inch thick instead of 1/4 - so, another bar from HD and off we go. I may end up moving it forward as he did, but for now I attached the bent piece directly to the engine mount - seems fine and can still use the centerstand.

Thanks again to Bakaracer for the simple, cheap design.

LOL! Looks good. If you looked around more online you could have found some nice aluminum anodized ones gor around the same price as you payed for the one you have. Other wise it looks good.

Greetings:

An Elegant solution. I plan to Sticky a copy of this one in Tech Docs. Next time you dismantle, could you possibly measure and post your mounting bracket dimensions, hole locations and bend angle? It'd save the rest of us lazy bums the trouble of re-engineering. I may try to make one myself thanks to you.

What length stand did you buy? I've been looking for a good side stand solution. Nice and simple attachment I like.

I might offer considerably more, depending on condition. Why don't you post a pic?
