Re: 2 strokes are coming back?!
We can only hope they do. I've read that the big mfgrs have been able to pass epa smog tests with fuel injected 2 strokes for a few years now.
*, without injection they were able to pass smog back in the great 80's! Granted it cost and weighed a bit more with the catalytic converters but they could still do it. I'd pay a bit more for an injected RZ350 today! Can you say 750 power in a package that weighs 250 lbs!? WOWZA!

You can actually get fuel injection kits that would work on a spree, I had found them on the web. I must hunt the link down.

Yeah it was adaptable to all kinds of small displacement engines.

Greetings:
I think it's important to draw the distinction between "Port" fuel injection that's been around since the 1950s and the latest
"Direct" injection that squirts Gasoline at very high pressure directly into the combustion chamber, like a diesel, but still with spark ignition. That's the technology, along with recirculation of lubricant, giving 2-strokes a shot at beating Emissions requirements.

Good find, tuserv. What Aprilia didn't have, and that Rotax, OMC, KTM and others are working on, is a pump-fed lubrication system that doesn't blow the oil as a total-loss system out the tail pipe, into the nose of the Smog Police. Outboards and some snowmobiles already being sold have it. It's a matter of time until someone tries for a Street-Legal vehicle to pass Emissions. Trouble is, the expense of these additional devices bring the cost of 2-strokes back up toward the cams and valve train of 4 strokes. However power should be better for a given engine weight, so don't give up on this yet.

Yeah agreed, that thing is so pricey it makes it not quite a player unless you have deep pockets and are most likely singlepaulpauly7 wrote:that is friggen awesome nice find pat .You need a pat o the back for that one .Now who has the money to blow on it so we can see how it works .My wife would friggen kill me if i bought that when i have a perfect working carb

Re: 2 strokes are coming back?!
Advancement in atomization of a/f in sdi has kept the 2t limping on. From the performance standpoint, turbo 4t tech has stolen the performance margin from the 2t.Wheelman-111 wrote:Greetings:

Re: 2 strokes are coming back?!
So you have to turbo charge to get a 4t to match normally aspirated 2t. Sounds like 2t is still the better power unit!

Turbos bring on a slew of other issues, and the cost of turbocharging must be added to that of the cam drives, valve gear, etc. This makes a considerably more expensive engine. Kawasaki's GPZ 750, Yamaha, and even Honda-san's CX-650 promised liter-class power in a midsize frame. They never quite delivered, and a li'l something called Turbo Lag makes for an interesting ride.
