Almost can wheelie...

Post by se50 »

Hi,
I almost can wheelie my '87 SE50, with clutch restrictor removed, UNI filter, and clean muffler, but need a little help. It still does only 25, but it can go up steep hills off road without bogging out like it did before with other jetting, though top speed didn't change. I can get the front wheel about 1.5' off the ground at best, and then it goes back down. It can be ridden out for about 5' at max. To get it to pop up, I just barely get moving, jump down to load the suspension, and crack the throttle wide open as the suspension comes back up. Any other wheelie tips? All this is being tried on a perfectly flat gravel road. I about fell off the back when I tried going up a slight hill in the yard trying to wheelie. :D I'm also sitting back about as far as I can go on the seat.

Any advice is appreciated.

on an aero 50 i fixed i could wheelie by just putting my legs back. dead stock.

i'm sure there's web sites about pulling wheelies on motorcycles. never have the balls to hold one for longer than a short distance myself. on mtn bikes however, bring it - those don't hurt when they fall on you.

I've seen that one a few times. :D

I think my throttle response isn't good enough. When it is cold, I can pop off wheelies without even yanking on the bars. I about flipped over backwards (came very, very close) last night trying that before it warmed up. When the engine is hot, I'm lucky to get the front wheel a foot off the ground. I'm making a wheelie bar for it now, so I feel a little more safe. :D

It doesn't look that difficult, which probably means it is!

With poor accelleration, like my SE has, it is near impossible. If it would snap open a little faster, it would do it without me even trying.

Money is an issue. I'm not going to spend $150-$200 on a cyl. and piston kit. I'd trade for one, though. :D

I can pull wheelies on my stock 83 Aero! I rocked one across an intercetion when a guy on a superbike revved up behind me. When the light changed, my wheel came up and I looked back smiling (i had on my half helmet) and the guy stalled his bike and was slapping his knee hysterically! He pulled up at the next light and it was his turn to wheelie past me!
