The GYRO That Got Away /66SIX

Post by 66SIX »

Saw a ad on CL and thought OK 1 more and then done .
It was a Gyro X listed as a Gyro .
Called the seller right away / nice guy didn't know much about the bike
because he traded an outboard motor for it .
We talked back and forth and he sent more photos .
Wow even had the stock windshield but missing the rear rack
and the engine cover , the seat wasn't ripped or dry rotted .
Price $475. but getting it from North California to Vegas 6 1/2 Hr. each way
through the mountains not fun .
Well it got down to the seller saying he will hold it for me or take it to the swap meet
I said take it to the swap meet and if you don't sell it we will make a deal .
Well I called the seller back Sunday nite and asked how did it go ?
He said he sold it for $475.
OH WELL ! Do I Really Need Another One ?

That would have been cool, especially for that price.

I kinda wanted it .And the seller was a really nice guy on the phone and he did give me the option .
But when he said yea he sold it , it was all good like I said going to northern Cal then all the way back
I was not looking forward to that if it was closer I would probably be working on it right now .
And another thing I am having a big storage problem I don't think with all the KY jelly in the world it would fit it in my garage or sheds .

Yes. That's it. I had seen it on CL here locally, then on sunday. I appreciate the oddball, and when i saw how it tilted, i knew it had to be mine. I had bought an old radio the prior week from him and talked with him a good bit about the outboard he traded for the Gyro. BTW, i got it for less than $475

Well I am glad you got it and hope you post some photos of your restoration work on it also.
Did you get it running ?
How long did it take ?
I am not sure but I think it takes a higher amp. battery .
Does your kick start work ?
How is the plastic hopefully the cracks are an easy fix .
I hope you can clean or polish the windshield they are a rare add on and hard to find .
I hope all the parts are there as they are so hard to find even in Japan or Asia .
You might want to try to contact the guy that traded it for the outboard and see if he has the rear rack .
You will deffinatly want to get that .
You are also lucky the seat looks in good shape and original .
I really hope you post a lot of photos as I am curious as to how it comes out .
Yes I wish I would have got it ,as it is very rare but I have so many now it will be always the one that got away .
If you have any questions drop me a line I am not sure if I can help as I have no manual or parts source for it .
But I would like to see how your project comes out .
Best of luck and just be patient ,it will look cool when your finished .
66SIX Here are some pics of my Gyros
