Finally...my FIRST Elite 50

In 2008, I was without transportation of any kind.
I had spent all of 2007 and half of 2008 without income.
The opportunity to buy an '85 Aero 50 came up, and I was blessed with ownership.
Later, in 2009, I came to Nashville, where my life began all over.
Soon I was trolling Craigslist often, and enjoying the comforts of money.
Once I joined this forum(2010), acquiring an Elite 50 became a desire.
The market here is fairly void of the Elite 50's,
and I was finding that the one's listed were usually very battered and bruised.
Many other scooters later, and yesterday,
I found an '87 Elite 50 locally that had also been somewhat neglected.
The seller told me he had replaced the seat and front turn signals,
but other than that, it was "as-is".
Asking $550,...wanting $500,....I agreed to $475 for this bike, including title... :thumbwink:
I believe this is more $$ than the bike is truly worth,
BUT I am NOT in California or Hawaii, and it was now or never.
Yes, it is not an AF16 motor...but I am happy with the AF05E.
I will do the common de-restrictions, and be content with whatever that process yields in results.
Please suggest the things you would do to this Elite 50 for street use.

So, does that make you an Elitist?

Does she play well with Ruby?

If you want to go the front disc brake route, it can easily be done on the '87 Elite. Look at what Bakaracer has done in the past:

Nice score!

If you decide to upgrade the steering tree to a JDM Dio one, I'll happily donate some parts to give you the Super Dio headlight setup.

...Gee, thanx guys for all the flowers... :hi: :hi: :hi:
and those are sweet offers donut, curtis, & sanjuro...   ...you got my attention
but hey, my standards are not quite in the realm of "gnarly mods" and "wicked-speed"...
Having a stocker around that runs really good (with some de-restriction)
will probably satisfy my passion for owning the sleek Elite S.
And breaze : Ruby is so thrilled to be back in service that she is playing well with all her siblings.
One sad reality is : Ruby needs license plates and insurance, but "Shooter" the Elite needs neither.
I am resolved to keeping only two bikes registered, and this has been forcing the thinning of the stable.
If Ruby stays, the only other choice to eliminate is the CM450A (Turd)...and that will take some tough love.

Those 87s were hot commodity and in the 'wanted' list before the AF16s came into existence. ;) In a way kind of like the Kharmann Ghia to the VW bug; the 87's the sexy cousin to the more common Elite S (SA50s). :ndance: Congrats MotorMike on adding a beauty to your stable. :woot:

Said good-bye to this '87 last week.
After realizing that these Elite 50's will never be more than dangerous in my hands,
I installed the ramp plate, unrestricted exhaust, and new belt, and soon a fellow with plenty-o-cash took a fancy to it. No love connection here, so I bid "Shooter" a fond farewell.
Don't expect to be seeking out any more Elite 50's in the future, except for those that have "flip-ability".
