Is it an Elite S (Slow)? Chances are, it has a restrictor in the muffler, and the restrictor on the variator. Though, my SE50, with no restrictors at all, and performance filter only does 25.
1982 Volkswagen Rabbit 4dr 1.6l diesel (5 speed)
1987 Honda Elite SE50p with drilled out main jet, shaved head, UNI filter
1985 Kawasaki Bayou 185 ATV
1984 Yamaha IT200 enduro
1974 Piaggio/Vespa Ciao moped, pocketbike exhaust.

What year and model?
Look on the down tube registration plate

You need to determine if its a restricted model
which requires derestriction or whether its a 35-40mph SA50 that needs a new belt, carb work because my Aero 50 1987 is good for 30-35mph with a 20 year old belt and no mods.

My '86 Spree does about 32 mph on the flat with my 220 lbs on it. 37 downhill!

ok, what you need to do is take the exaust off and remouve the washer welded in the flange, then remouve the kickstart cover and that off the front pully, then slip the belt off then the variator will come off, unbolt the 3 7mm screws from the back of the variator, then reinstall, simple as that, then there is a elite intake restrictor, it think its by the reed valves, i havent found it yet tho, and then reasseble, it should go 35-40

I agree with the above post. Don't stop with these fixes until you can peg the speedo and 97 dio should.

Does this still apply if you're 200lbs of gleaming muscle, and your 20 year-old Spree still hit 32 on the flat?
