Gotta wonder what's wrong with people who like to randomly cut wires.

Hello Luckyrabbit... :hi:
I am holding a '86 TG50M hostage in the garage.
It is strictly parts bike now.
You need something from it ?
Like for instance, the rear rack ?...don't see one on "Golden Boy"
The ignition switch is janky, but works with a screwdriver...

Yeah it makes you wonder if there was a reason. Most of the time a cut wire isn't just done precariously, it may serve a purpose and until you are sure it was not done to save the bike from burning down do not just re connect it.

A fuse could be put in line for testing. Odds are that would prevent bad things from happening. You could always have a fire extinguisher handy too.

Hey Motormike
Thanks for the offer. I have a rack for the golden one. Of course I'm missing the carb cover, you don't have one of those.
its has a pod filter on it, not sure if I'm going to put a airbox in it. You don't have a bracket for the battery that also holds the fuseholder.

I also wonder why they cut the fuse out. maybe it kept blowing. I'm putting one back in, we will see what happens

Hooked up the battery cables and fuse line, also a key ignition.
Good news - no blown fuses
Bad news- the ebay battery I bought months ago is crap. It was pretty much dead. Had it on charger overnight and still not strong enough to turn engine.
tried jumping battery and can turn engine over , but will not start.
next up is draining gas tank, changing petcock to correct one with knob and changing fuel filter

Changed gas, gas lines, petcock and fuel filter. Still won't start. Will check for spark, then the carb next

Still can't get the golden gyro to start. New gas, petcock, gas lines. Getting spark.
if I put a little gas in the sparkplug hole, it starts . Tried 2 different carbs on it and same thing. Could it be anything with the reed valves?

Greetings:

Bad reeds can make for a very hard start and bad low-end performance for sure, but they don't fail all that often. Dirty carbs happen ALL the time.

I tried with the stock carb, then bought 2 new carbs on ebay. All the same, no start, not even a putt. I bought a replacement carb on ebay for my other gyro and it worked great

Does any one know what the compression should be on a 85 gyro?
I thought maybe the compression was low and thats why it wouldn't start. When I checked it, it was around 90psi.

Service manual lists the compression service limit at 114# p.s.i.
