1985 Honda Spree Value
So happy to find this forum. We have a 1985 Honda Spree that looks brand new. Hasn't been driven in probably 20 plus years. Does anyone know how we can find fair value. Someone offered 250.00 and I'm sure this is too low. Thanks for any comments!
Re: 1985 Honda Spree Value
My opinion is this:
An '85 Spree that has sat for 20 years will need an extensive amount of work, time, and $$ to
clean the carburetor, replace all tires and tubes, replace the drive belt, clean and seal the gas tank (IF it is still worthy, most are NOT), NEW battery, lights bulbs, air filter, fuel hoses and vacuum hoses...do you understand now the reason that $250 is an EXTREMELY generous offer ?...I didn't mention levers, cables, seat, clutch, gear oil, and the little things like fuse and rusted connections. And, what if the piston is stuck ?...some parts of Spree are virtually un-obtainable. I have imagined the worst-case scenario. If your Spree is running, with new tires, battery, and looks like new, then more money is in line.

Okay, but did you spend any money to put into service or was your Spree ready-to-ride ?akurtzer57 wrote:I just paid $300 for my 85 may have been to much but i wasn't familar with current values. Runs rides great has 1700 miles.
$300 ready-to-ride is a great price...

Isolated sales of Sprees for more than $500 are a result of impulsive and un-informed buyers....

I paid 250 for my spree but it was a convenience thing.
I could have gotten a running one for 400, but I would have driven 40 miles to get it, or 250 for a non-running one that sat for like 25 years.

Re: 1985 Honda Spree Value
older scooters and mopeds are incredibly hard to sell with these low gas prices.
I'd say take the $250 and run, man.

Greetings:
There isn't much that's more variable and subjective to the individual than "value". For scooters, prices go up as the beginning of riding season approaches and down when it ends. Location, as noted by our Hawai'ian friend matters a lot. Throw in condition, running state, and emotional elements and you can see a variation of 50% to 200% of average value. Even a non-running spree that looks good has more than $200 worth of parts to sell on eBay. For Deepinnaharta, KBB says a nice one is worth $555 at a dealership. Here is one in Pointblank, Texas.

Most of my money is spent on scooterparts. The rest is just wasted.

That's IF you sell them all. No secret that I find Sprees mostly a waste of my time. They're fine for YOU if you like them.Wheelman-111 wrote:Greetings:

Re: 1985 Honda Spree Value
I paid much less than that for one in that condition in AR. Had maybe 170 miles on it. Couldn't sell it for a cent more than any of my higher-mileage runners, though God knows I tried. Sold for $400 in 2009.62lpierce wrote:So happy to find this forum. We have a 1985 Honda Spree that looks brand new. Hasn't been driven in probably 20 plus years.
