1994 Honda SR Elite

Post by caw0215 »

Hi - new to the forum and new to the SR Elite. Downloaded the user manual for the SA 50 hoping there's very little change between the 2 models. The previous owner provided very little other than it's been sitting a long time and local handy man says it needs a new carb. Removed the gas tank, all gas, carburetor...and next would like to drain out the oil.
Question: can't find a drain plug. YT videos show other models that have one ( allen socket, left side near the swing arm ). Not the 50cc model.
any guidance? TIA-Carey

No drain plug. Just need to disconnect the oil line to drain. Theres a small screen filter inside the rubber boot at the tank connection that should be cleaned while you're in there.

Your question SEEMS to indicate that you expect there to be an oil drain plug on the engine case.
My reply is : your bike has a 2-stroke engine that does not have ENGINE OIL.
There is instead: 1. An oil tank that contains 2-stroke oil that is pumped and injected into the intake manifold for consumption by the engine.
2. A gearbox that contains 10W40 oil that keeps the gears lubricated.
My question is this: WHICH oil do you want to change ?

Sorry for the late response. I was able to change out the 2-stroke oil and replace it. Checked the oil pump marks and it is lined up OK. Added some 2 stroke oil to the gas as well and sprayed a little sea foam fogging oil into the cylinder to lube it up a bit.

Was able to fire it up by kick starting it...ran it for a few minutes and shut it off as I noticed the rear wheel was not spinning even when I revved it up. Not good.

So to your question #2 .. I'd like to change out the gear oil (10-40 ). Any steps or guidance appreciated.

Gear oil should be changed but its not your problem. The issue likely lies under the kickstart covers. Im thinking belt or clutch.

Thanks @meatball for the feedback. Guess I need to asses the situation and see what next steps are and if parts are even available.

You should change the oil in your SR Elite 50cc every 1,000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first.
