nq50 very cold

Post by ethelberttaylo »

Hi Guys,
After my nq50 is warmed up the intake and carb feel very cold and the intake is sweating - water dripping off of it. Is this normal?? I am new to scooters so our thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Greetings:

Yes it's probably normal. What you're witnessing is the fuel's phase change from liquid to vapor. It is an endothermic process akin to why the paint can you're holding gets colder when you spray a long time. Add humidity and you can see the condensation on the carb and intake. It's a problem for aircraft at high altitude so they actually have carb Heaters! Honda's solution was to have the exiting cooling shroud wheeze over the intake side.
