Spree Driven Face

Does the driven face on the spree variate in size based on speed? I know there is no variator, but the clutch looks the same as all other scooters with the big center spring and all. Does it somehow variate without the presence of a variator or is it just there to help you get the belt on (compress the spring)? It is my understanding that the spree has a fixed tranny.

Im 99% sure its just there to keep tension on the belt.
