Prospective Aero 50 purchase?

Post by back2basics »

I think the price that is being asked is a bit high, but I thought I'd check to see what you all think. It's a 1985 Honda Aero 50, decent cosmetic condition, supposidly runs reliably. The asking price is $650. If that doesn't sound right, what do you think I should go after it for?

Depends on area and mileage. You could not sell something that old around here (NC/SC) at any price. Do you know the mileage? Anything broken/missing?

The aero seems to hold its value, make sure the plastics are in good shape.
Can't afford speed then stay away from it!

Always talk people down, even if its the best deal ever. From what I have heard the 85 is the best aero motor.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Alright, unfortunately that Aero was sold before I was able to go and check it out but...............I did just find a 86 Spree by me that seems to be in excellent condition. He's had it for only a year and the guy he bought it from just had the engine rebuilt, new battery, carburator overhaul, and new tires. Great cosmetic condition and none of the plastic is cracked. Fender and some areas are a little faded, but it looks very clean overall. Its got a clean title too. I can get it for $725. What do you think about this one?

That looks like an 85 Spree (no kickstart).

in 1986 im pretty sure a spree was $800 NEW, even in that shape its not worth more than $500.

If that spree is an 86 it has mismatched parts in it(86 motors have kickstarters), you can tell the year from the info plate stamped to the frame behind the front wheel.

kenny,

in 1986 my inlaws paid $453 out the door, tax included, for my wife's spree. I have the invoice.

in 1985 they were $399 out the door almost....

Well, an elite 50 is what I found next. The guy with the Spree would not come down in price at all.

So the Elite is supposidly in great running condition as well. Its an 1989, says it runs 33-34mph, sat in storeage for 5 years, original owners manual included for $650. He wanted another $25 to bring it down to me (I live 25 min away and dont have a vehicle to pick it up), but I told him that $650 sounded high anyways so I just asked if we could keep it at $650 including delivery. Opinions on this third attempt?

looks nice. looks like a SB50. cant do to many mods to that engine performance wise. seems a lil high for the price to me. whats the mileage on the scooter? if it were me, id talk him down a lil, but not to insult the guy.
