Spree for commute?

The place to discuss rides, accessories, or whatever is tangentially Spree/Elite-related

Spree for commute?

Post by vnice »

Ok, so if I have a Spree in good condition, is it reliable for a 14 mile round trip commute?

I can get a Spree for so much cheaper than anything else that's newer, and realitically, I don't think I can afford anything new.

i think that depends on your bike. I know some guys take their scoots out for 100 mile trips, but they really know what they're doing. THey can fix them up if they break down. If your spree isn't totally shot you'll be okay

If it is shot but you can fix it up you should be able to use it as a commuter. That's my plan once I get mine back in tip-top shape. Really depends on how beat up it is I guess.

I'd like to take longer rides with my Spree but I worry that little engine
will never take that kind of punishment and survive.

As it is I'm keeping my speed well under 30mph most trips.

My red 85 Spree is a commuter. About 20 miles a day, average. Works pretty good, few problems once I got it running properly.

It is my belief in under 80* weather you can run a spree engine WOT till the rings get paper thin and fall off the piston.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Well, I live in Vegas, so for a couple of months of my commuting year, the temps would be higher than 80, for sure. Our winters are pretty cool, though.
