Yamaha Razz vs Spree/ Elite

Post by domromer »

I'm wanting to get a 50cc scooter for my wife. I have a soft spot in my heart for the Razz as it was my fist non pedal powered vehicle ten years ago.

I never had do do much work on it, so I don't have much of an opinion on it mechanically.

How does it stack up against the Elite/ Spree in terms of reliability, ease of getting parts?

Not sure about the razz but through personal experience...
I was riding the sprees over 20 years ago and I still ride a 84 spree. I think they are very dependable if treated well. The one that I have only has a little over 2 thousand miles so I guess its still not broke in.

well i can say that sprees in general are STUPID simple to wrench on.

If you have two working thumbs and a few brain cells to rub together, their quite easy to keep running and find parts for.

That's how my razz was. It just would not die. It had been stolen, ran over, dropped of the back of a pickup, partialy submerged in the Ala wai canal. Yet it still kept ticking.

if you can find a 94-01 elite, go honda.
those motors are gold, even stock the performance is amazing. Very good, very long lasting, so on and so forth.

my friend has an old razz and its not bad. It really comes down to what you find first.
i say the razz is like a spree. about same top end. they both last very long times. they both are good.

but the 94-01 elite blows them all away.

I really like the looks of the elite as well. I think I'll concentrate my search just to hondas.

I had a Razz, we could not kill it. I even rode it four miles to my parents with no oil and TRIED to kill it. Nope, still running to this day, kid still rides it.

Nothign available for those as far as upgrades except a big bore kit, but unkillable.

around here, asking if you should go with a spree is like asking a barber if you need a hair cut.

at any rate, go with the spree or elite.

Easier to kill a jog cause if you hit a bump or go off a curb that hot pipe is gonna take some damage.A spree or elite will just grind the frame.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

It seems to me that some stock 49cc mopeds (Spree) top out at 28-30 MPH. Other stock 49cc mopeds (Aero) top out a36-39 MPH.

Given an equal choice, I'd go with a faster scooter.
