Using an acoustic tachometer.
1st test: my car (aka beater #1)
Acoustic Tach: 1474RPM
OBDII Onboard computer: 1485RPM
so, it's somewhat accurate.
2nd test: '86 Honda Spree
Based on the acoustic test only: 5937RPM
So, the redline is probably 6000 and mine just can't make it there any more since it's ancient.
87 Octane btw
measured my redline

? Honestly, that sounds slow. Is that "acoustic tach" tuned for a single cylinder 2 stroke? The reason that I ask is that a single cylinder 2 stroke "pops" at every revolution, whereas a single cylinder 4-stroke "pops" at every two.
I think the redline on the stand is probably more like 12,000 at 40 MPH. On level ground, at about 30 MPH, the Spree should be turning around 8000 RPM.
