Thinking of buying a Ruckus...is this a good deal?

The place to discuss rides, accessories, or whatever is tangentially Spree/Elite-related

Thinking of buying a Ruckus...is this a good deal?

Post by dr.ona »

Hey all,
This guy has a 2001 49cc Honda Ruckus...original owner...great condition with 1120 miles on it. He bought the netting, footpeg and windsheild accesories for it.....he wants a $1000 firm. Is this a good deal?
I'm a spree man myself. I've heard the Ruckus is kinda clunky and heavy...but if the price is right ya never know...

Thanks!

Robert

You sure it's a 2001? I thought they didn't bring the ruckus to the states until 2003. Not a bad deal though for the low mileage. Keep in mind the 2006 and up come with a better cdi, pipe, carb needle and a different pcv unit and therfore are faster stock than pre 06 models. stock pre o6 go about 35-37 depending on weight of rider and my 07 gets up to 45-47 with no wind or a tailwind and I weigh about 195.

remeber to change the oil in those! I have seen a few in my shop that spin bearing in them, a very costly repair. The newer ones are faster than the older ones. If you planning to make it go faster, be prepared to spend some dongs! Like for a good unrestricted CDI 300, bore kits , you must split the case and have them machine out the skirt areas. they look kool when they are all spiffy!

Sorry..it's a 2004. I think if I were to get it I would probably keep it stock other than what he's added to it.

depends on what your looking for. If your not mechanicly inclined, get the 4 stroke ruckus. You shouldn't have to work on it much, about as much as working on a newer car, since its a 4 stroke. Just change the oil once in a while

If you are mechanicly inclined, get a 2 stroke. Newer honda elite. You can get them going very very fast

up here in canada those go for around $2000. So I think it's a good price. But i know nothing about performance. So if it turns out to be slow, just sell it and make a few hundred $ off it.

I'm with Toast bro. My close bud has an 07 Ruckus and it kinda sucks. It will get to 40 but . . . . . . . . it's takes a long time even with variator work. The steering is slow too (big rake)

They are good scoots but IMHO they're turds.

they'll go over 40, but they aren't a whole lot faster than a spree as far as acceleration

Ha..Ha...yeah I'm a Spree guy.
What I like most about the Spree is how light they are.
I can easily load two in my van and go out of town for some scooting with my girlfriend.
The Ruckus seems way to big and heavy for that.
