Is bedlining the wheels a good idea?

Hey guys,
I am currently restoring an aero 50 and so far have painted the frame a flat black. I live in New England so I figured with the sand/salt it would be a good idea to protect my aero even further by applying that do it yourself herculiner bed liner to the frame. Do you recommend I apply it to the wheels as well or should I just leave them with the flat black? Any advice would be much appreciated.

It will probably just end up rotting underneath. I would go with just paint.

My concern with the bed liner would be the possibility of water working it's way in through some small flaw and rotting the wheel from the inside. One thing you might try is some of the zinc primer. It's about 90% zinc powder with just enough paint to stick it together. It's as good as galvanizing for preventing rust. If you clean the part to bare metal, paint with the zinc primer then regular paint or bed liner it stands a better chance of working. I have powder coated over the zinc primer with good success also.
