3 Steps Back

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:
so i went and installed the cardboard piece, and i think the gas leaking problem is even worse now
i think i'll go ahead and remove it, but i don't know where to go from there
You could go back up 3 posts and re-read the second line... :)

right, but i don't even know if that's the problem now that i've found the rubber in the lining of the carb

is there a piece that presses between the float and carb, or just the one that fits in to the carb directly?

im probably describing this horribly, i'll get pictures to demonstrate what i mean tomorrow

this cardboard shenanigans is coming to an end either way

Leaking carb

Post by GlynnC »

Leaking needle valve? Clean seat (s,ee many posts on this subject) possibly replace valve. If you thought the price of a gasket was bad, these dudes are $15.

alright, so when i went to disassemble the carb, this cabley thing just fell apart

here's the carb with homemade gasket installed

this is what i'm dealing with, im thinking the black part in the carb is the gasket that i thought i was missing, so i'm not sure if there should be another piece between the two of them
Image

this little * is what i first noticed gas dripping from

got any ideas? :/

Hello,

Are you talking about the red "cabley" thingy, or the black "cabley" thingy you're holding in your hand?

Well, the red "cabley" thingy is the vacuum line that pumps gas into your carb.

The black "cabley" thingy you're holding in your hand is the electric choke.

If its dripping from that hole, that means you're getting too much fuel in the bowl (correct me if i'm wrong) Which means you should check your float needle seat.

If i were you, i'd go and thorough clean the carb 5 times![/i]

All I know is that a finger cot will not work. It is too small. But there are larger sizes.

i mean the black cable i'm holding-look in the carb, you can see the spring and needle that would otherwise be inside of the cable

The black thing you removed is called the bystarter.

It looks like you may need a new one. I have never had one come apart like that, somebody else should chime in and give better info.

i sloppily plunked it together and it ran before, but could it have anything to do with the carb leaking?

darat who's been posting to this thread made a nice set of pics and text for bystarter assembly, been handy for years. Thanks darat, your post has saved many a broken bystarter.
