JUNKYARDS... are the S***

Post by wikked_spree57 »

I went to take in 500 pounds of scrap out of my yard this morning ($20 worth, I needed smokes) and the guy who runs the place knows I like mopeds. Soon as I pull up on the scale, he had a RED 1994 Elite S sitting there. 487 MILES! Plastic is in not so good shape, but I had carb clean with me and it fired right up. He told me to unload and take it, so I basically got it for $20.

Pics to come when I get batteries for the camera. I NEED AN AIRBOX!

Thanks toast, I just consider it pure luck.

I mean, how often will you find a scooter (or even a car for that matter) in the scrap yard that needs nothing more than a good carb cleaning and has under 1K original miles?

Plastic is all toasted on it, but it runs GOOD.

How do you go about getting a title to get it on the road?

In Michigan we just forge a bill of sale and pay $15 for a 3 year sticker.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

That is exactly how I found my 78 express. 897 miles and they had the title. Someone else pulled it for me though. Some people will throw away anything that doesn't fire right up.

Oh I know all about that. that;s how I got into mopeds, I was out trash picking one night 4 years ago and I had my Cavalier trunk full of all kindsa cool stuff, but I ran across an 85 spree with a free sign on it. In exhcange, I emptied my trunk on their curb for it (had to make room, that was much cooler than the old computer s*** that probably didn't work anyway lol).

I found a 78 Express at the boneyard last year and got it for $10, and the trans cover and complete ratchet/wind up kick start went for $60. I think I made $175 or so off the whole bike.

I got a free 1965 Honda CB160 Sport and ATC125 junker that way.

"Hey, you like motorcycles, you wanna get these off my hands?"

Yes, yes I would.

I got a free TNG Venice that way - I know - its not a Dio engine Elite. The owner advertised it on Craigslist as a non-runner. Right after he handed it over, as an afterthought, I asked "You did try starting it with the kill switch off?".

Guess what!

Good god... Thay came through again. I got a Elite CH125 today, for $25...

The body is completely trashed, but, like DoubleAey says, all I had to do was "clean the carb and just ride it". It runs perfect... 50MPH.
