hey, heres my update. 87% of the bike is painted, engine is re-mounted, 90% of the bike is rust free.

i am having 1 problem(this is probably a question for workdog)
whats up w/ the kick start?
im pretty sure i've got the teeth lined up right(if you've got a photo of how its supposed to be, this would be great, the one in the manual sucks) but i cant get the kick to catch every time, nor does it return every time. the return spring is on right...the only thing i could think is it needs more lube(and who doesnt these days?).
again any help w/ this would be appreciated.

You could call liquid wrench, see if you can get a 55 gal drum of the stuff, and then just put half your bike in at a time and let'er soak. That may help with the nuts and bolts.

Greetings:

The spindles and bushings do wear with use, particularly if lube is neglected and more if mistreated. When a part gets loose enough to go diagonal, it jams. The cure if grease fails is new or less-worn parts.

here she is as she sits... still need tires and a couple other things before i start up the engine.
please note: everything is simply sitting on that bike, nothing is bolted down tight, the front plastic isnt even screwed in.

for those of you wondering about the seat...
it seemed too big a job for me to reupholster myself(because of all the curves and what-nots...
so i coated the whole thing in plasti-dip(the aerosol kind). its not pretty, but it works and is weather resistant

was it humid where you are when you painted? or did you just have the can too close?
i find that even if i paint in my garage, on days that it rains, i get wrinkles.

For rust and corrosion removal a mixture of ATF and acetone works better than any commercial product out there.

"Various penetrating oils compared

Machinist's Workshop magazine actually tested penetrants for break out torque on rusted nuts. Significant results! They are below, as forwarded by an ex-student and professional machinist, Bud Baker.
*Don't forget the April 2007 "Machinist's Workshop" magazine comparison test.*
*They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrants with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from a "scientifically rusted" environment. *
Penetrating oil ....... Average load*
None ........................ 516 pounds
WD-40 ..................... 238 pounds
PB Blaster ............. 214 pounds
Liquid Wrench ..... 127 pounds
Kano Kroil .............106 pounds
ATF-Acetone mix..53 pounds

*The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of 50 - 50 automatic
transmission fluid and acetone.*
*Note the "home brew" was better than any commercial product in this one
particular test. Our local machinist group mixed up a batch and we all
now use it with equally good results. Note also that "Liquid Wrench" is
about as good as "Kroil" for about 20% of the price."

Lookin' good! And I think I'm gonna try that penetrating solvent home-brew...

I've used it a couple times on salt water encrusted outboards I have in my collection and it worked fantastic. A buddy who's speciality is restoring old outboards uses it all the time and breaks about 10% of the bolts he used too when using BP Blaster, Liquid Wrench and Kroil Oil. First time I used it I couldn't believe how well it worked. I was a professional factory certified recreational marine mechanic for years and I've never seen anything come close to working as well.

new brake cables went on today.
re-ran the wiring harness

actually, i got fired for doing something totally stupid.
we sell pop-its and those party puller confetti things right?
well, its corporate policy not to sell them to ppl under 18...
my boss was pushing me to sell all of them b4 the 4th...
so, some 12yr old boys came in and i figured "i used to play w/ these when i was 6"
so i sold the boys some popits. turns out... corporate was outside doing a "sting"
yeh... awesome eh?

as for new work, ive applied at a few places. the manager at tjmaxx wants to hire me, i put in an app, just waiting on bkg check.
i would rather work at ace hardware(closer to my house, more my style)so i put in an app there. everyone that works there knows me and the 2nd in command manager is a friend of my dad's...but they havent called back yet.
