Bolt On Spree-Dio swap Shock Mount...Proposed Design...

Post by richdavison34 »

I'm attaching some rough drawings of my proposed design for a bolt on shock mount for those looking to do motor swaps on your sprees.

Let me know what you think of this design....drawbacks, problems, suggestions.

Once I get a design finalized, I'll be able to make these very easily.

I don't own a spree myself, so there are a couple of measurements I'm unsure about. I don't know how wide the frame is at the site for the shock mount, and I don't know the extent of the curvature of the bottom frame half.

The other questions I'm curious about are proposed on the drawings themselves.

Thanks!

PM my with a solid list of measurements you need. im currently tearing down my spree. And noise guy i think made on adapter and it was just a wishbone type thing about 3 in long the attached to the bottom of the shock and the shock munt on the trans.

Ok, here are a few pics of my prototype. (sorry for the low quality, the wife took off with the camera for tonight) The attached pics are a MINIATURE version of my design.
I love the idea of a bolt on shock mount but how does this connect to the frame?
There will be holes pre-drilled in my mount. You will have to drill holes into your frame to make holes for the mounting bolts. The holes you will drill will be in the place where the frame halves are pressed together. (The 1/2 inch or so of flat steel on either side of the frame.)

I will post some pics of my prototype, along with some more pics of my prototype with some markings indicating what measurements I need to know.

Yeah, I know. This is just a miniature prototype to test the design and to give you guys a solid visual on the measurements I'll need.

If you have to drill holes tn the frame....then drill on straight through, put a bolt in the hole and mount your shock to it.

People who want this "bolt on" mount will not be willing to drill holes in the frame :imo:

Thanks trafficjamz! This is the kind of feedback I'm looking for to make a better design.

I do some rethinking this afternoon and develop a non-invasive approach.

but would that be strongenough?

I think drilling 4 holes in that "pressed frame half" and running the mounting bolts through there would be very strong. Drilling the holes would also be very easy. I could even include the bots with self locking nuts in the "bolt-on" kit. All you would have to do is drill four holes and bolt her up.

This being said, there may be some folks that want a completely non-invasive application (nothing wrong with that, I'm all about meeting the customers preferences). I'm thinking the way to accomplish this is to devise something that would "pinch" those frame halves instead of running the bolts through them. As I see it in my head, it will be equally strong, it will just take more material.

My goal is to send you guys an all inclusive shock mount...(mounting bolts, instructions, etc)

I'll make another protoype this afternoon. Can anyone take some detailed pics of that area of the spree frame? That would help me out a lot in the initial design process.

Instead of drilling through the frame could you use the battery box holes instead?
