1986 Spree

Post by adios1344 »

Bought an '86 spree from a friend for $200. Runs great, came with another engine, and full set of plastics (2 sets, 1 on, 1 off). As of now, it goes about 32. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas to make it go a bit quicker, or if I have to I will do an engine swap. Just if anyone could give me pointers I would be greatly appreciative. I'll post pics later tonight. :D

The honda spree doesnt have a variator, Without a variator there is no chance going past 40. About 2 months ago I literally posted the same thing about me spree. Now I have a 1997 honda dio engine on my spree which can cruise 40mph easily. Soon to be highly modded. :thumbwink:

'97 Honda dio motor eh? Was that difficult at all? (I imagine it was) but I think I read that post already. I might do that, but I will definitely require some serious help. Like instructions I suppose. Care to help when that time comes?

A dio is a 94-2001 honda elite 50 engine. The swap required some simple fabrications but with the right tools it is incredibly easy. I documented my dio swap on this forum just check scooter builds for a step by step. Ask any questions if you need :2thumbs:

Technically the Dio and Elite engines are not the same, yes they both bear the af16e engine but they have a few different parts :D You can call it a dio engine I guess since the af16e was released on the Dio first but I am pretty sure the Elite 94-01 engine bearing af16e uses a different carberator. Then again I dont guess that matters if the parts are interchangable :D Dios have foreign specs and elites have american specs. I am doing the engine swap right now :D I got mine from an 94 elite in the junk yard

would an elite 80 engine fit?
If it don't fit, force it. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway.

The difference between af16e's and true japan dios (af18) is the boost ports

Mainly I pointed that out for the new guy, don't want to confuse him before he even gets to know his NQ50 :D the elite is SE50 or SA50 depending on which years and the Dio is SK50 :D
