1984 Honda Gyro Build

The main frame looks really clean.

Thanks, Sanjuro. It is a basically good starting point for a rebuild. Everything was dusty and of course covered in caked on oil. 97.5% of the parts are there and Honda carries most of the gaskets, o-rings and such. You can even still get some body panels new!

I'm thinking of trying to get more power out of it after I get it running. Going to get a battery this weekend.

BTW, you're still an inspiration for me, as you were on TotalRuckus, I'm Kzuckus over there (12th member! don't recognize most of the people there anymore). Don't have either of my Ruckus' anymore and don't live in Arizona either but keeping an eye out for that cheap one.

Well, finally got the swing joint cleaned up. Three days of on and off working on it. Here it is:

So I decided to put a few thing back together:





Tomorrow I am going to clean the engine and hopefully the other plastics.

Now I need the oil and fuel lines, I just want to replace them just in case, some are cracked on the ends and some are stiff. Anyone know the I.D. of these? I can look them up. My tires and tubes will be here Monday. The rest of my parts will be here Wednesday. Still need battery, Throttle Cable B and front brake cable (sorry Marty, it's not going to work). Well, time for bed.

I cleaned the engine up quite a bit, I am going to clean it more if I have to break the cases. WAYYYY to many crevices for me to get into. It all gets covered up. So that is going in today, and whatever else I can put on that doesn't interfere with putting the carb on and adjustments. It will be back on it's new rubber hopefully Monday.

Moving on....got a package from UPS today...

What a pain!! The 8" rims did not like giving up the old 26 year old Bridgestones, so here's what happened...



Should get another package from UPS tomorrow and possibly from USPS tomorrow or the next day.

Got a new present from UPS...

Also got a battery. I got good and bad news. All the lights and horn works, except the headlight. Also, when I hit the starter button, the starter spins and grinds like it's just not engaging enough. The manual says faulty starter pinion or reverse rotation of starter. I hope not, you have to remove the right hand cover and a few other things to remove the pinion. I will go out and remove the starter again to see what's up.

Your Gyro looks GREAT! Freaking awesome build/ resto thread. Looks meticulous to me so far!

I think you motivated me to find a Gyro in need of some help. Looks like a really fun restoration. To me, that's the fun of restoring; cleaning up the old parts to make them look new. Nice tires, by the way.

I am looking forward to seeing the rest of your build. Thanks for sharing the pics.

USPS dropped two boxes today, still waiting on the one I need to put the carb back together. But I got my new front brake cable, I took a chance and got one from a 83-84 Aero 50 NH50MD. It's approximately 2›" too long but the ends are correct and it works great!! Also got my throttle cable repair kit from Dr.ATV, just have to find my torch and get some solder.

One of my rear tires went flat since Monday so I have to look into that.

Other than that, I'm working on a target date to fire her up on Saturday! (If I get my last box).

Is the back of that headlight bullet connectors or is it a plastic plug? Also can you take some measurements? I have a hunch that a Spree one might work. I'm willing to send one your way if you just pay the shipping. That is of course if its interchangable.
