so i got my motor yesterday :geekdance: now i only have a few problems i have to adress and i should be good to go
i am missing the slide and cap to the carb and one of the rings was stuck in the piston even after a day sitting in carb cleaner and an hour in the ultra sonic cleaner plus a bake in the oven at 450 degrees  , i ended up having to pry it out with a small pick breaking it into pieces so now i am on the look out for at least one standard bore ring for either an aero 80 or cr80

Bear do you know if the cr80 rings will fit in the aero piston and will +0.25 rings be made to fit, both the piston and bore are immaculate so i don't think i need a new piston or rebore

Glad it was received in one piece but sorry to hear about the rings. My only quick check when I bought it was to see if the kickstart would move the piston.

Glad to hear the internals look good and I look forward to watching your build. Thanks again. :2thumbs:

My race motor pistons only had one ring. Back in the day all 2 strokes pistons had 3 rings, no the standard is 2.

I think the whole 1- 3 ring difference is all piston company/engine maker's discretion, most 2 stroke mx motors ive seen come with 1 ring pistons, cause they only need to last a couple races
yeah my 1983 cr80 has a two ring piston, i guess i could steal the piston outa that bike but im trying to sell it sigh

Back in the '70s and before every thing had 3 rings. In the 80's the change over to 2 rings was completed. But even back in the 70's single ring race pistons existed.

Porting, induction system and exhaust system have more to do with revving high the the number of rings. More rings just increases drag which hurts house power production.

:naughty: so that is how I increase my house power. One ring is sometimes used just for cheaper production costs.

 a good spell checker does not preclude a proper and thorough proof reading.

We all do it now and then. It was just funny to me because we lost electricity last evening.

finally back heres my progress so far got the engine in with very little fuss, no frame modification what so ever... yet :nervous: just had to modifify the engine hanger to be wide enough by splicing both the 50's+80's together but now i have a serious ride hight issue :surprise:
