it might have. when you rev it up,when the engine decels down just after reving. does it sound like when you put very small rocks in a soda can and shake it? ride it under 35mph for about 2-3 tank fulls and modulate the throttle and make sure your not keeping it at a constant throttle while riding. you need to load and unload the piston and rings to seat it well and break it in to the cylinder wall.

Greetings:

Few issues create more arguments than the "Right Way" to break in an engine. Oil Brand is a possible exception.

For every fastidious 10 Heat Cycles in an Escalating Pattern Followed By Progressively Faster Rides Until You've Burned 5.5 Gallons of Fuel kind of Expert, there's a Whack It Open and Ride the Snot Out of It Right Out of the Box - If It Don't Blow Up, It's Broke In dude.

Like most polarized extremes, the sensible answer is probably somewhere in the middle. For sure if you don't know where your tuning stands starting out, it would be wise to go easy and watch the temp gauge, read the plug and keep the throttle moving gently. Once you have a tank or two burned with stable temps and good plug color, you can probably start riding harder.

This is how every one of my race motors were broke-in and I never lost a one of them. I even set some records with those motors broke in that way. It does work but remember one thing, These motor ran for about ten minutes at a time for up to 6 times a day for 2 days a week. There were a few 1/2 hour marathons a year too. So these engine actually accumulated very few hours a year and were rebuilt normally once a year, except for a couple of exceptional motors that made super power which were used in Kilo record runs.

Very true ... you ask 10 people how to break in a motor and chances are you will get 10 different answers, I will take all the recommendations and find a happy middle ground, best part is I don't have noobs commenting on this ......yet :2thumbs:

it doesn't sound like that ....so I will take it easy . good thing is the Italian engineering seems to be forgiving!

So i assume you would still keep the top speed under 35 but just do a lot more hard accelreating the first couple rides?
How long of rides and cool time after?

I plan on keeping it under 35 mph at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle , rides I have been doing are around 5 miles at a time so I will probably stick with that. I let it idle till it goes down to 200 degrees

Did some more light riding today, never went over 35 mph and was constant throttle on then throttle off. didn't see temps over 300. everything seems to be going well :2thumbs:
