Greetings:

Bike speedos have been done. You have to sort out how to mount the wheel magnet and the sensor on the fork.
Also be sure to get a model you can program to the wheel/tire diameter you intend to run.
Many are under your $50 budget. Some are even cordless.

I suggest Bike Nashbar or Performance Bicycle.com or your local bicycle shop.

Most of my money is spent on scooterparts. The rest is just wasted.

Alright yeah ive been looking around and think i found the one im going to go with. Its the "Sigma BC1609 Cycling Computer, front wheel sensor" model. From the reviews ive read the cordless ones have some major issues (transmission is easily lost between the sensor and display) and the wired ones are the way to go. This model has the adjustable wheel circumference too so i think its a good buy at $34+shipping

Just another piece of the puzzle to add to the list of parts to get

Just saw this thread, looking good. I noticed talk of fuel prices, don't plan on getting 70mpg with this build. I agree, the only way to go with VT cycles is to call. Some things you can get through a DSM shop (Fenders Cycle), ask for Nick. He used to run KS power sports in Indianola but merged about a year ago. He does a lot of ruckus and gy6 stuff with swaps, even has a few of his own large displacement designs but for modding frames and swapping motors, he is your guy if you need a local.

I installed a $14 Bell speedo on an express and that worked well. It was a hard wire model, the wireless work well until the battery starts to get weak and that doesn't take long when riding a scooter.

Check with your local county crew. They hire summer labor and starting pay is $13/hr here.

VW techs make 20-25 per hour. 20-30 to work on those cars is low.
