Tin Worm: the '83 aero rebuild

Post by fightingplankton »

well, i decided to get a head-start on this thread.
i'm picking up 2 83-84 nh80's tomorrow. i'm going to attempt to get one of them running and mount the other engine on my spree.
i will post pictures as it progresses, but this will be a bit of a process as i dont have a lot of time or money.
if anyone has tips(that has done this before), they would be greatly appreciated.

i'll get before and after pics up once i start.

here's Norrin's new heart. please note: i plan on removing the spider webs and pine needles. im sure this will affect the value, as it wont be stock anymore, but i think it may look cooler w/o them.

interesting side note. the spree keys from both mine and my girlfriends bike will open the glove box on both aero's but not the seat lock or ignition.

Greetings:

You must now report your recent actions to the Environmental Protection Agency and file for waiver CX-29B: Destruction of Habitat. If you fail to do this you may be subject to Fines and/or Imprisonment. We're watching... :surprise:

Beware Mud Daubers, Mice, and the dreaded Spreeders.

You din't move those scooters did you?!? Transportation and relocation of wild critters is strictly regulated by State and Federal Fish and Game. :surprise:

Looking forward to the build on this one! How/where will the water cooling system go?

well, before i get on to the build, first i have to figure out what is what under all this rust.
i already broke the battery terminal trying to get that bolt off. ive been uber careful w/ everything since.

taking a break. i'm getting really upset.

1. cant get the motor off the bike because i only have 1 socket wrench(and vice grips keeps slipping off the other side)
2. cant get clutch cover off...G-d only knows why. i got it apart from the case, but it seems like its hung up on something, possibly the kicker

i did have time to clean up the usable parts i did manage to get off. only found 2 spiders today.

i do believe that the kicker goes through the cover on that motor, rather than being part of it. if you have a rubber mallet, a few whacks here and there never hurt...

yeh, i read the manual, but it just says "remove the bolts. remove the cover" it doesnt say anything about the actually kicker.
what it should say is "get really frustrated and give up now"

from the looks of it, it has been sitting for a while... some persuasion may be necessary.
