My Honda Tact

Post by Paul604 »

Picked up a 1990 Honda Tact last week. Kinda new to the whole scooter thing. Wasnt running, No compression, cracked ring, so I ordered a new cylinder and piston off ebay. Just wanted to get it running for now, so its just a slightly bigger bore at 44mm. The kit I got uses the stock head so thats at the machine shop getting milled for the 44mm piston. Other than that i've just kinda cleaned it up a bit, repainted it semigloss black, and installed a HID headlight since i had one around. Its got the Af05e engine so im not really sure what my options are for upgrades. I'd be happy to get it up to 50mph or so. What would you guys recommend for a cheap pipe? Doesnt seem to be much out there for my engine, but I can weld so I may pick up a decent pipe and mod it to fit. Here's a few pics for now.

Well, finally got it running, but the plug wire wasnt fitting correctly with the engine cover, so me being new to air cooled engines took the cover off and was riding it around for most of the day, overheated my new top end, cracked a ring and gouged up my piston and cylinder. LOL learned a few things this week. So now its time for a dio swap. AF05E came out today, picked up a dio case today, stroker crank and 51mm bbk tomorrow. Just have to decide what carb to go with and ill need a new pipe. I'll post up some pictures when i get started tomorrow. Hopefully I have it back up and running this week.

Well, i thought I could get a bigger crank locally but all he has is mini stroker cranks. Is there a lot involved with fitting in a 50, 51 or 52.6? I can get a 51 or 54mm cyl kit locally, will the 51 work with a stroker crank? I know the 54 i'll have to open up the case a bit up top to make it fit.

you have to get the case cut to fit the 50,51,52.6mm cranks. the mini stroke cranks go right in without having to cut. If the 51mm bore kit is for a stock stroke,no it won't work for a stroker crank.with the mini stroke it will work.you just have to add base gaskets to make up the few mm of stroke.

What cylinders work with a stroker crank? Think im going to go with a 50mm crank. Not sure on the cylinder yet.

has to be a stroker cylinder. not many places sell online.jiangwayne only has the 54mm stroker cylinder.on ebay same thing.you will have to call vt cycles or any of the moped shops in hawaii.they have different size cylinders for the stroker cranks.

Jiangwayne is like 20 mins away from me. Maybe I should not bother with the 50mm crank and just get a mini stroker 44mm and use the 51mm head, would be less issues and I wouldnt have to bother cutting the case. How are CMR cranks? The case i got doesnt have a crank so i'll need something.

Well, picked up a mini stroker crank and a 51mm cyl kit. Everything is almost done just have to space the cylinder a bit cause the piston hits the head. Should i just add a few gaskets underneath? Have to make up 1.8mm difference. The stock gasket is close to 1mm so 2 more should do the trick, that shouldnt mess with timing or anything should it? Would i be better off spacing the head instead of the cylinder?
